lets have a link to this car then so we can all make our own minds up, to be honest I would suggest that if offyourmarks website is anything to go by, I would 100% take his word over your's Kev.

surely the website could be as decieving as the pictures of his car apparently are.
let me give you a quick insight into my background, i am an automotive engineer, have worked for ford, nissan and twr to name a few,i have also been part of race pit crew for teams competing nationwide and in a variety of competitions inc btcc, formula saloons and seat cupra challenge and i have owned, built and tuned over 20 subarus for road and track use.
i was also involved heavily in the classic vw scene and custom built bike scene so i would consider myself fairly knowlegable and of sound judgement.

Hi Kev
Sorry if you are offended in any way. Paul is indeed a very nice bloke and although yesterday I did indeed think whether I was misled in any way, I am sure it is all above board.
That said, I saw what I saw and have not exaggerated in any way. With respect I don’t believe anyone can challenge me when bodywork is in the equation. Plus I actually measured the thickness of the paint myself. Areas of concern had >140 microns with unpainted panels reading typically low as per JDM Subaru averaging around 80 microns.
Dents - well I do paint less dent removal so my eye does not deceive me.
Fuel smell - well my nose could smell it under the bay. My other two scoobies don’t smell of fuel under the bonnet. Maybe a touch from the exhaust when cold.
Obviously I could not be certain that HGF was present but the signs were there and lead me to think of failure between an oil and water gallery - THICK creamy sludge in the expansion tank. HGF are notoriously difficult to diagnose on Subaru’s as you probably will know and the most common failure mode is hydrocarbons in the coolant - I did not do a sniffer test.
I do not doubt your integrity as you obviously have a wealth of experience. I too am an engineer by prior profession - chartered engineer (CEng ImechE and MIEE) and my conclusions I believe are valid.
The bottom line is that the car was not what he believed or advertised it to be and I am of firm opinion on that. We all have differing standards, but for 5.5k it needed to be very close!
I did not start this thread to name or shame as I could easily post a link to the advert. I chose not to as its not the way I work, plus Paul said he would be getting it HG looked at and fixed if required. That said it was a wasted day and wasted money and my experiences I have shared with my fellow forum peers.
Best wishes
Matt

apologies if you think it is a slanging match i am after as it is most certainly not.
neither do i at all doubt your bodywork capabilities as i did look at your website, i was only voicing my honest opinion that when i saw the car i would have classed it among the best i have seen, certainly ive not seen many with the passified zinc coating stilll on components under the car and under the bonnet.which i find rapidly deminish after +30k miles or a harsh winter of salty roads
the interior i thought was as near perfect as ive seen compared to anything i had seen that had been used.
Also the HGF issue i have come across before, if it was in the expansion tank then that would certainly lead to further investigation but the fact it was coolant overflow bottle that there was scum would leas me to believe otherwise.
anyway as i said i never posted to fall out with anyone just to urge people to make their own minds up as opinions often differ from person to person, this is evident just in the opinons between ourselves.
Thanks
Kev
