I'm looking for the best way to get near 400, so that's in terms of reliability and drivability, no point looking for the cheap way now, already spent a load on it.

I thought the tubular manifold did increase power though.

you will get 400 with the correct turbo and fmic.
as you have pinks, fuel pump and exhaust.
you can still uprate pump injectors and fit a in wing air filter but the list goes on oil cooler , catch can or 3 catch cans , etc etc have a look at scoobyclinic thread on trader section on here .... ask kev on there mate

Don't want to go FMIC though as I hear it's not required for road use at this level

As i'd expect a few different opinions about how to get near 400, many ways of going about it i'm sure.

What i've not seen though is folk saying that slapping a bigger turbo on their car was the best thing they ever did.

So was it a good move or not?
Did you (after the initial rush of the extra power) think that maybe the car was better to drive before?

Talk me into doing it, i'm pretty close to it already.

HELL YES !

It's ballistic, thirsty, stops, handles, looks tidy ( from a distance )....

What's not to like ?

Assuming you are old enough to insure it !

dunx

P.S. A paddle clutch is a bit of a pain in traffic.....

Should not need one, it's a case of decent advice.....

I struggled to get clear advice from anyone, and ended up getting mine from Mark @ Lateral.

I'll launch it one day !

dunx

P.S. Mine started slipping soon after the turbo went on, just before the re-map was sorted

As I said in the first reply, you must be prepared for a 'change' in driveability. It depends on your driving environment. Is most of your driving on long open roads? if so, you'll love the power as you'll be able to access it more often and effectively. If most of your driving is urban then it's almost certain that one day you'll be sitting in a jam thinking what a waste it was, spending all that wedge! My environment is biased, unfortunately, toward the latter. But, if you're like me and just like the knowledge that you have a powerful car, even though you rarely get a chance to use it, take the plunge. But please remember 1) life and reliability of certain driveline components will be compromised. 2) It's an on-going process - you'll instal gauges and gizmo's to tell you what's going on, then become paranoid about whether something's about to expire! 3) Be forever worried as to whether it's really producing the power it was supposed to eg "it feels a bit flat, today" 4) Get really pissed off because the BMW diesel pulled away from you because you left it in 6th with 'only' 3000rpm on the clock and nothing really happens until 3500rpm!
I would hazard a guess that most posters on this thread will recognise most of the above?

JohnD

PS I almost forgot - there's a no5 Forever frightened that the 'other half' will find out what you REALLY spent on the damn thing!

If going for a FMIC, avoid a Cossie one - 9 weeks and still waiting.
I had a paddle clutch on the last scooby @430BHP and as Dunc said its hopeless in traffic. I then went for an organic (AP IIRC) which felt and operated like a std clutch. Engine only had 380ft-lbs so not sure what the clutch's torque limit is. Going for an organic again on the 450 ish build as it should be good for about that output.

Aint that the truth!

But is all worth it on those few occassions when you get to show the car a clean stretch of NSL road and nail it. I've "only" got a 340ish Bhp classic but there are times when I take it out for a spin and think: "Blimey- this really is a pretty bloomin quick car"

Although you always want more!

Then you manage to get on a track, and enjoy the thing properly.....

I'm no star driver, but getting mine to oversteer flat in third makes me at least feel like I can drive, ( a bit ! ).

Mine has to get me to work, but as a toy it does what I need.

Thanks for the feedbacks on your cars, good honest stuff there.

I am afraid of some of those things if I'm honest, must be getting old or something.

fmic will net you more power and will work more effiecient than a tmic. in saying that the top mount will feel a tench more responsive but if your thinking of doing trackdays then fmic is probably better for you.

p.s engine tuner drive in drive out just over 500bhp you will be well looked after by Alan, martyn and the boys

best of luck

Just over 500

That must be where the bit about not letting the misses find out about the cost comes into play

I must say, well impressed with EngineTuner, returning mails, taking time on the phone even though busy.

Shame it's a 500 mile round trip !

I bolted the manifold, exhaust, turbo, FMIC and fuel system to mine, JGM mapped it and an expert did the clutch...

Std. STI - you pull out, and pass the car infront safely....

330 bhp - you pull out, and pass the HGV infront safely....

400 bhp - you pull out, and pass three cars, a HGV and the motorcycle infront....

LOL

dunx

P.S. Where are you based? I'm up near the M62......
