I am just amazed at how emotional the whole Apple v <---insert other brands in here---> on here and in other forums

It seems to me, that if you favour Apple products you are classed as either a snob, have a superior attitude or are woefully blinkered. Owning a black turtle neck is optional.
People pigeon hole you as a slave to the marketing and hyper machine that Apple excel so well at and yet no attention or creditability is directed at the build quality, ease of use or how well they perform in the real world.

I, years ago, once read a book By Vance Packard called " The Hidden Persuaders " (great book BTW) which was all about the way products are sold to us on several levels and how we are 'influenced' in our buying decisions.

The thing is, never once, do I buy something and think ' I bought that out of pure self control, the decision was all mine and at no point was I swayed by marketing or advertising" I know that to be total bollocks, yet I am not going to sneer at the guy next to me in the checkout aisle because my Cillit Bang is far superior to his own branded one

TBH Jack, your posting style is open and honest with a slight tinge of defensiveness which is quite normal if you have been a supporter of a product /brand that has been a minority for quite a while. This, is i think, where people on here get all uptight.

Ah well, it does make for interesting reading sometimes

Are you for real? Try myopic, patronising and antagonistic.

Just for the record, I dont judge anyone in anyway for their choice of mobile device
I do like poking fun at iPhone users because its just the done thing. All meant in jest.

In reality, I like them, think they are a great step forward, and offer a lot. However they are not for everyone. The only time the "debate" gets on my **** is when its rammed down your throat as the only mobile worth having, and people refuse to accept other devices on the market excel in different areas.

I love chopping and changing between brands and devices to see what is available out there. And since I managed to overcome my non-nokia-phobia I have used some great phones. Sadly touch is not for me.

Nope, just stating facts ... well opinions, but you seem to get the two confused so why not?

The day you tried to patronise me over the signal strength issues with both of my iPhones just because you couldn't bear it that your beloved device might have a flaw you became fair game as far as I am concerned.

You live on the edge of reception, that's a fact, quite easy to deduce. You're just shooting the messenger.

You see, that is where the problems lies. Unlike Jack, whose defensive posting style may come across as antogonistic, I dont get worked up about you asking me 'are you for real ? '

have you ever read any of of jack's other 8000 odd posts, the ones that dont have anything to do with Apple products etc ?

I just think you have now classed him with a label which is just as bad as maybe him thinking you are an antifanboy.

No it is not a fact! You are either just playing or you really are as thick as!

3G dongle on Orange has full strength, iPhone on Orange does not.

Where is the problem and please try and think really hard before you reply?

OK, I should have been more specific, but seeing as we're talking about iPhones and Android I didn't think it necessary, you live on the edge of reception for the iPhone. Either way you live you the edge of reception. Fact.

surely the implication is that the iPhone aerial is inferior to that of the dongle?

Both devices use 3G - fact. There is no such thing as iPhone reception - sorry to burst your bubble but the iPhone does not warrant its own network

If one 3G device has full strength and the other does not the problem is wth the device not the signal strength.

Please tell me you understand this.

Not sure why this happens with signals, my sister and partner have an old sony erricson phone and the super basic Nokia (the one with the torch) and neither get a signal in the house. Yet my new desire picks up HSDPA in the same room?

Quite likely, and I've never said otherwise. But you're not going to get Apple to change it, so my original advice to you to get in touch with Orange still stands, if they improve their coverage your reception will increase. Why this upsets you I don't know.

A momentous occasion

He finally admits the phone is at fault

BTW Orange don't need to improve reception, they can't as it is a full signal strength reception area as indicated by their coverage quality map and by every other phone 3G or otherwise that I or others have ever used there . Just the iPhone that has the issue. Never mind though as it is a game changer LOL!

Glad you're happy. The 3g has the same aerial and GSM chip as the 3gs by the way.

Antifanboy huh, it couldn't be that the odd person finds the HTC Desire a more desirable phone. The thread title is iPhone v Android, so that's what people will do pitch one against the other. If I had a house full of Apple products I would probably take the hit and buy the inferior iPhone.

Applettes

I thought this thread was supposed to be in good humour.

Just to resurrect this thread a little.

Android 2.1, as of last Wednesday, has full voice sat nav that you can even use in street view.

Just go to the app store and upgrade Google maps and download text to speak.

I have just bought a HTC desire network free. Coming from the Google G1, which I thought was fast, the Desire flies, just like a PC for speed, no lag at all.

Even with some 20 apps running in the background there is no hesitation at all, there is no need to have a huge memory on board to cope with the applications. I did purchase a 16GB class 10 card for storing photos and playing music. Free Google satnav was a nice bonus with 2.1 Eclair.

Did I say the camera works great aswell, the flash copes admirably for low light shots.

The screen is bright and has great definition.

I quite like the sense UI as is, so I'll doubt I will be rooting the Desire

Ditto, except mine is on contract, but I also stuck a 16GB card in so that I can run ViewRanger OS maps which look awesome on the LED screen. I love the free Google SatNav too, especially as my other half is always borrowing my TomTom.

The speed of the Desire never ceases to amaze me, it works faster than I can think
