The usual M.O. is to drive around late at night and have a photoshoot, of any likely candidates, then steal to order. At least they aren't so cocky that they were willing to break-in whilst you were there.
I fitted a fuel cut-off solenoid to mine, so a HIAB is needed once the tracker has been dismembered. Or they can tow it away !
I worry about, taxi drivers, pizza boys and Asda drivers too
dunx

Interestingly the police advice was to take the keys upstairs to bed with you, the burglars rarely make it upstairs apparently. Now, the last thing I want is a burglar looking down on me whilst I sleep, and it puts the rest of the family at risk which is something I'm not taking a chance on.
The burglars are taking huge risks, for example ;
1. I may have an alarm in the house set for downstairs only.
2. I may have an angry/hungry dog waiting to greet.
3. Their escape route is restricted.
4. I may have an alarm in my separate garage.
5. I may have a mechanical deterant fitted to the car (good advice from Tony), or Blackjax anti hijack fitted (similar to dunx).
6. My car may not be in the garage since it's not in view.
I think that they have 2 choices for plan B, leg it or violence.

I dont think its below the belt (own opinion) Theiving scum. They got what was due them. I read about this and im just glad noone was in the chippy. A couple a thieving b@st@rds off the planet. Its not as if the courts do anything to them.A slap on the wrist and away they go to do it again.

Sorry to hear this news, horrible to know someone has been in your family home whilst you were asleep, feel for you mate. I hope the insurance company sorts this out properly for you.
I am not going to go into the details on an open forum but there are ways of making the car thieves job more difficult, even if they have the keys
And I think the standard tracker system Subaru UK fit is pretty rubbish. It seems every time a hatch STI gets taken the Metasat is either thrown out the window or turned off. So I also fitted another VHF based tracker system, in a totally different location

DaveP - Yes, lesson learnt, obviously the car locked in a garage out of site, electric gate and keys locked in the house is not enough these days. The next car will have a few more devices to prevent this type of theft happening again, my house has been 'hardened' against such a target also. VHF Tracker sounds OK now, but will there be some masking device available on ebay to make this ineffective soon as there are GPS blockers now.
On the plus side, I'm saving £60/week petrol (every cloud....)
My car has been spotted in Bradford (Emm Lane, near Heaton), so anyone in that area please keep it in mind, the car will be quite a rare site I'm sure.
Thanks for the sympathy expressed by everyone, it's now been 7 days, I feel I'm being rehabiltated from my spiritual driving.
