Drove over to our depot near Heathrow today. Strange to have no planes taking off or landing.

The signs on the M25 saying "Stansted Airport Closed" and "Heathrow Airport closed" brings back memories of 9/11.

At last - a few planes are taking to the skies again - two small passenger planes have left Glasgow airport & later this morning a 757 is due to take off.

Its destination?

Reykjavik in Iceland.....

Why?

The quiet, clear blue skies above the UK have prompted speculation over what the world would be like without contraptions.

Professor Henry Brubaker, of the Institute for Studies, said: "According to my computer, it would take ages to get to Australia, but, by the same token, it would also take an awfully long time for Australians to get here. Which would, of course, be excellent."

Just had this sent round at work from BA:

Flight schedule for 20 April, 2010

We will aim to operate some long haul services later today, however this is subject to the full and permanent opening of airspace. Which flights may operate are currently being reviewed and as soon as we have any updates we will let you know.

All short haul flights have been cancelled.

There are 10 longhaul inbound flights airborne and en route due to arrive after 1900 local time today (Tuesday 10th April 2010). Diversion stations are being planned in case inbounds have to divert due to airspace still being closed.

We are working on detailed plans to help as many customers as possible who have been unable to fly due to the unprecedented circumstances.

The most accurate information about which flights will be operating will be available via the ‘Arrivals and Departures’ information on ba.com/batraveltrade.com or via the GDS.

We would urge all our trade/corporate partners to remind customers that they should check whether their flight is operating and only come to the airport if they have a booking and their flight is operating.

What the difference between the Icelandic volcano and Cheryl Cole......

The volcano is still blowing Ash..............

Serious note thou been sat at home for a few days now, I deliver urgent Air Cargo and I'm bored witless........... cars clean, grass is cut, weeds are out, could start painting the house.

Airport is as dead as a dodo........ideal for scooby racing....but too many coppers about with nothing to do at the moment(wots new)

Got a lot friends and family who all work at the airport all sitting at home some are getting paid some have been told it will get knocked of there holiday allowance (unfair).......

Just waiting to for the panic to set in thou as i'm sure we will start running out of fresh fruit and veg (something which they haven't mentioned on the news), I live near western international market and it is also quiet.....

Better start planting in the garden

Being sat under the approach for Heathrow has been blissfully quiet, a couple of light aircraft, but other than sitting in the garden has been peaceful.

Only downside is I've been busy as my boss is stuck overseas so I've got double the workload
