This is the next iphone...

Call me cynical but I think the whole lot is viral advertising to intentionally "leak" info about Apple's up and coming phone.
Its great publicity; "accidentally" lose a phone, and it magically turns up in the hands of a very large and widespread Apple friendly geekoid blog (well, before this alleged "lost" iPhone, at least ).

I dont think this was Apples master plan for 2 reasons
1. Apple don't do this, they prefer show stopping announcements (and one more thing...)
2. It immediately harms the 3GS sales, I know of two 3G owners now saying they will wait for 4th gen than upgrade now after seeing it
p.s. looks like Opera fixed you're spelling mistakes as well as mine

I will see if I am eligible for an upgrade when the 4G comes out, but I am not planning on getting one right away, it would need to have some serious advantages over my 3GS for me to upgrade. There is also the fact that we should be getting a few through work for testing purposes and I will be able to have a proper play with one and then make a decision based on that.

This is what I don't understand about Apple fans.
How do you know it will be any good. Whether it will have the features you want? Whether it is worth the upgrade from the 3Gs?
You don't as it hasn't been formally released yet, but you have already decided you are having one.
Apple must be laughing all the way to the bank if this is as much effort they need to put in to sell a new phone.

1. My phone is the 3G not the latest 3GS
2. My contract is up for renewal now so when it is launched I will be eligible for a free upgrade
3. I have all the features I need now so any more will be a bonus
So no brainer
what I dont get about you though is your persistent efforts to jump on any apple/iphone threads. Either you were dropped on your head as a child or JackClark has really done a number on you

Got nothing to do with me being an Apple fan

Not jumping on any threads per se, post more in political threads than phone threads as it happens, but recently have suffered with the iPhone as it is not for me and does have reception issues and hence have taken more of an interest hence have been posting.
As for being dropped on my head or Jack doing a number on me what great repartee Think what you like if that is the best you can come up with.

I'll sell my 3GS to pay for my upgrade and have change for a few pints, same as when I sold the 2g and 3g, I'm only a few quid off full return of my initial investment. They're worth even more second hand if you're with O2 and unlock them officially first, Americans lap them up. No more Jailbreak and hacktivation = cash in my pocket. Thanks Apple for being awesome.
Reception will - it's been rumoured - be improved in the next version which should help people who live in reduced transmission areas. No issues here with reception even from Istanbul to London, over land and sea I didn't see it lose signal once, but I guess transit routes are well covered by transmitters. I couldn't even complain about not always having 3g as about 50% of the people around me had new Blackberry's that don't even have 3g!
f1_fan Apple have a great track record, I wouldn't say it was a no brainer, more an easy bet. Fancy a wager?

I agree with jack on the value point I sold my other 3g on eBay last year slightly scratched and it sold within 2 hours for £250.
No other phone can hold Its value like that. Hence second time roud I have the back and screen protected.
Also unlocked via o2 cha ching.
I just hope the battery life is sorted as that's the only thing letting the iPhone down badly!

Ant, I agree the battery could be better, but then it can always be better.
I have a Power Monkey, and it's a wonderful thing, everyone cracks on about how carrying a second battery is great, and they're right, but why carry a battery that only works with one device! Crazy!! In 4 days it charged up my iPhone a couple of times, not from completely empty, but just a top up when I wasn't using it, I didn't use a mains charger once.

Why is it a no brainer? How do you know the phone is any good? Serious question btw.
Okay a serious question deserves a serious answer -
I work in the industry, with Apple and use their products on a daily basis. The iPhone 3G is for me, a perfect phone so with just the rumour of the specs and iphone 4.0 coming then it makes even better sense.

Tempted to hang onto it though as a second backup phone in case I lose/drop my new one. We shall see, the ££££ may make me change my mind

And that is a fair comment. All I was asking before he spat his dummy was why would you commit to buy something that hasn't even officially been announced in any detail yet. Surely you would want to check it out first even though it may be an easy bet?
