This lots making me chuckle, imagine going to the main stealers with a wheel barrow and buying a rake of STI parts, then sticking them on your non turbo like it's an airfix model, then hey presto! an STI, cheap as chips

Guys the front wings are different for starters, that is for a wrx to sti let alone the rear ones. As said the wiring will be different and need splicing together. Mate this is not an easy job and in all honesty will be a shed load of money downthe drain when you can buy an sti half way to your goal. To build a 450bhp 2.5 forged lump with all the trimmings will set you back 10k and then some let alone all of the body work, interior dash and loom. Seriously this is madness, end ofthe day it's up to you and full credit to you if you take it on but it really is not worth it buy an sti for 12k and spend as much again to build it to as near to 500 bhp as possible

12k would never get you even near 500bhp and if it did it would be for weeks and not years untill you go parts shopping again.

you will need a 6 speed gearbox 2.5K so factor that into the cost. would you not be better getting a damaged sti or wrx if you really want to get your hands dirty ?

I have stared at pictures of STI and non sti's for hours, and i honestly cant see the difference in wings, nor in front bumper, i can see a difference in rear bumper now, but its so minor that it took me quite a while to notice: Here is what i mean

STI:

Also here is a WRX from the rear, which seems to share the rear bumper of 2.0

Mate the 6 speed is already fitted to a sti, also said spend as much again to get it as near to 500 as you can. The clinc do a 450 package for around the 10k mark, when looking at fitted a forged 2.5 to my old p1 running a md321t+ and the supporting mods the build was looking to be around 13k so I am not far off, not all of us an afford rcm's prices like yourself lol. A hawkeye sti with around the 12k mark could be tuned to some where between 450-500, I don't see the point f spendng that on a 2.0gl then the rest making it look like a sti. There is a black hawkeye on pistonheads atthe minute for 16 or 17k already done to a similar spec to what the op wants so why spend 12k on a car the atleadt 12k modding it giving you a 24k bill when it can be bought completed for 7k less.

Sorry mate that’s what i was trying to say you add the cost of fitting a sti box into a none wrx or sti and the cost benefits will be lost. + the fact that with a wrx you can spread the cost as the basic car is good, a gl would need the full works before it could be used.

Here is what i posted on another topic about GL not being useful:

Imagine a tuning company that is building an uber race car ( of course they wouldnt use 2007 shell because its too heavy, but its just an example). If they get a 2007 sti, they have no use for its 2.5l engine because its too weak and they would rather use a 2.0 closed deck. They cant find a use for its 6 speed gearbox because they want a dog box. They cant find use for its brakes because they want to use AP kit.
So really, all what makes the sti so great is useless to them, getting a GL at half the price is a more sensible approach.

If prodrive/subaru had known what you know they could have saved themselves a fortune and used gl's instead of sti's as base for rally cars.

And then there's the STI crawford used to make Ken Blocks Gymkanna car.

so are you building a race car? think they would use a spec c. some of the TA cars still use 6 speeds.

No, im not building a race car if i was i wouldnt care about looks and would care more about weight reduction. However, the circumstances are close, as i have no use for any of STI's performance features.

I doubt subaru or prodrive care about what they use, as everything is pretty much the same to them, they dont care about prices either so they just use whatever is best of what they can make. Get a common shell, stuff it with best bits, call it STI and here we are.
However, i have no use for their best bits other than cosmetics, and im very much interested in price saving.
