Well tbh I've had so many of these discussions before, I've heard the same old arguments, you find its not worth getting too excited about. I always ask the question these days "what would it take to change your point of view?"
If the answer you get is "nothing" then you know you're dealing with a zealot (whether it be political or religious), and its not worth wasting your breath on. If they seem more open minded then treat them with respect, for chances are they simply haven't heard the same arguments you have and will often go away thinking about things in a new light.
Thanks for the positive comments by the way!

I will be the first to say there are some very unsavoury elements within the Islamic fold, terrorists and extremist fundamentalists. Those that would use religion to further their own twisted ideology, these people rightly deserve your castigation. However you are branding one and all and that is not right IMHO. All sections of society have bad apples irrespective of colour, creed and religion.

Husbands must agree to a divorce in order for it to be granted, thereby leaving the husband in practical control. Contrarily, husbands can say "i divorce you" 3 times and he is divorced. This process may leave the woman destitute should her family not take her back or the ex-husband fails to support her and his children.
The Qur'an allows men to beat their wives (An-Nisa, 34). Did Muhammed not say "beating should be resorted to only if the wife has become guilty, in an obvious manner, of immoral conduct"
Numerous studies have shown that domestic violence is prevalent within the islamic culture. One study in Pakistan suggested that domestic violence takes place in approximately 80 percent of the households in the country and occurs in the forms of beatings, sexual violence or torture, mutilation, acid attacks and burning victims alive.
As for honour killings, i wont even go there. if you want to believe that women are not second class citizens under Sharia law, i will let you remain delusional, but don't try to convince me that women have the same rights and freedoms that women in western culture have.

I have to stop you there, what we are talking about is not "a different outlook", it is a delusion, a long held, rooted in history delusion I grant you, but nevertheless a delusion. It is no more valid than fairies, pixes, leprachauns, trolls or elves. How would you describe someone who is absolutely convinced that fairies sprinkle fairy dust on their vegetables to make them grow? Mentally ill is actually a non-prejorative term.
Disappointed that we refuse to enter into a delusion and demand evidence for our beliefs?
Delusional or mentally ill, yes. And psychiatry would be on my side in that arguement. As I mentioned before, seeing imaginary friends is delusional.
It makes them ill-educated and the refusal to acknowledge new information and facts as science discovers them and to hold onto irrational beliefs is still a form of mental illness of being unable to comprehend reality. Once again, there IS NO EVIDENCE for omnipotent superbeings.
Science is a process, we are learning all the time, theories get propsed and tested, those that fail are discarded, those the match reality aare retained and built upon. I agree, we do not know everything yet, we learn more each day. This is normal and to claim otherwise is a misrepresentation of the scientific process
More important than facts and evidence Les? My conscience says I serve myself best by basing my decisions and behaviour on reality not fantasy.
Sure, all good questions, and scientists are working on them. That is what discovery is about. They dont require and invention of an imaginary being to explain them though. Look at plate techtonics for exmple. Up to 100 years ago, people claim it was the Gods being angry, now we know its a part of the planets geology.
Keeping things simple is great until you swerve off the reality path into fantasyland. Then its a bad thing.
True, I think it unlikely that a religious person will be swayed by my rational arguements as by their very nature they are rejecting rational thought. I live in hope though!
I repeat, that this is not directed at you Les. However to say that a delusional, irrational, non-evidence based belief system deserves my respect, well, words fail me. Why does it deserve respect? Out of politeness? Or because its true? Do you not see the hypocracy of rational arguing on behalf of an irrational idea? Im sorry, but respect is earned not given, and people who are so disjointed from reality need help. They might well be functioning adults but they are delusional, its as simple as that really.

Let me just say that you seem to believe what suits as much as anything. Blind faith in scientific theories proves nothing either.
Your final paragraph is revealing. Surely it is pretty obvious that when I say that I ask only that my right to my own beliefs is respected that it does not mean that anyone has to believe the same as me. No more than I believe in what you think but I said that I respect your right to do so. Your unfortunate attitude or misunderstanding leads you to yet another attack over nothing.
You still don't know what I personally really believe anyway, that is my affair.

Thats true, however I can see from your blind faith statement above that at times you can do a George III and be a "stranger to reason"

I would love to see an end to immigration, but cAn't see it happening for a while. Beside everyone is over here because most of the stuff in there countries was taking by great Britan when they were colonising countries.what goes around comes around.
My sister just got a divorce from her husband all they needed was two witnesses and done. Do you believe everything you read a lot of people get religon, culture and tradition mixed up.

I have gone thourgh this whole thread leaving my work aside for a few minutes to find some peoples behaviour has been very vulgar towards islam specially 'Bigsinky'. You have just shown your self up by posting offensive statements & silly comments which are not even supported by anything.
Havent you got anything better to do.

If you have been out classed, out maneuvered and you can not come up with a decent rational reply to perfectly acceptable questions, than from £1.99 a month, you too can use this defence;

I've met quite a few Muslims TBH and find them to be quite anti social, local corner shop next to me is owned by a Muslim, one day I was getting change from him and my hand touched his, he whipped his hand away from me and picked up a towel to clean his hand like I had the plague, I'm thinking he just couldent handle touching a white guy lol
