On a more serious note, the simplest solution would be (as mentioned above) to ban pete and his aliases until after the election.

How does one merge a debate or discussion with another? The subject may be the same but the topic and steer will be completely at odds, surely? Ali, could you explain how merging will actually work to provide a coherant, logically patterned thread? Thank you.

This is the first time I've been interested politics and been watching the debate and going to vote for the first time.so the politic threads I enjoy Reading untill pete sticks his oar in and ruins it all and then the thread just becomes his ego show, with his narrow minded approach to other parties.

Plus most threads in NSR go downhill rapidly after about 2 pages. And that's without our resident political ******** acting like a spoilt schoolgirl.
Leave as it stands perhaps as it's only for a couple of weeks.

Just out of fairness, I should point out the merge idea was mine. In reality the idea was only to take pete's fantastical, statistical dribble and throw it all in one pot/thread, so there are not loads and loads of wow, amazing, dip yer bread, well done Gordon etc threads throughout, and all Labours's amazing feats as well as pete's new found loyalty to Lib Dems could all be condensed.
For real matters, serious threads, and true discussions, the ideas was not to merge those too Just for the record of course

Well, lets give it a stab; If it deosn't work out I'll just stop merging them.
Obviously discretion will be used; Not every political thread will be merged, such as the leaders debate. As thats an ongoing thing based on each particular debate as and when they happen.
But threads just repeating what latest spin or statistic thats been published on a news website can all just go into one thread.

Would it be just as good to maintain a sense of humour and use his posts as a first class excuse for a good old solid rant. I can't tell you how much better it makes you feel to let it all out!
