I don't regret a penny of what I've spent on these movies over the years as I've derived a great many hours of entertainment from them all, except maybe 'Alien Resurrection'.
I bought the quadrilogy in the hmv sale for about £15, it was a bargain!

It's sad to admit I also bought the back to the future trilogy and Indiana Jones at the same time!

I think I paid a tenner for the R1 US version. Can't remember why it was considered the better set Often down to the inclusion of DTS or related censorship, but I don't recall.

BTTF is questionable. They were OK when I was 13, but as an adult they have nothing to offer, except Christopher Lloyd who's always excellent.

Indi however is superb. I have all 4, although that last one was a bit pants.

I was 9 when Alien came out and it was an 18. However, our local working mens club used to show films on a Thursday night, and being tall for my age I managed to get in to see it when I was 10. It wasn't long after we all started to get video recorders and we could watch pretty much anything we wanted, but I am glad I saw it on the big screen. I've always thought that I grew up in a golden era for cinema, with my first big screen movie being Jaws (75) which I saw in 76, followed by Star Wars, Alien, Indiana Jones, Bladerunner etc etc....

Corrado, its a bit of shame how poor cinemas are these days though, its take a hell of alot to drag my *** to the cinema. My living room has a better sound system than my local theatre, more comfy seats and my good lady can microwave pop-corn to a decent level of yummyness!

Oddly i actually miss VHS, watching a movie on DVD/Blu-ray just doesn't have the same emotional attachment to movie night.

The last few films we've ventured out to see have been at IMAX, and the sound equipment there is pretty bloody amazing. Our local multiplex isn't bad either, and with Orange Wednesdays we can both go for under a fiver, and smuggle in our own popcorn (I ain't paying £4 for that $h!t ).

I don't really miss VHS at all. I still have a player, and plenty of films to watch on it, but prefer the DVD for PQ and DD-EX or DTS-ES over Dolby Pro-Logic any day. I haven't even bothered with a BD player yet, and will either wait until I upgrade to a 3D telly and get one capable of that, or bypass that totally and rely on HD downloads. A lot of my watching nowadays is of downloads anyway via a media HDD, but I plan to fit a Mac Mini into the set-up soon. I think Apple are playing it wisely by focussing on downloads as it is well publicised that BD isn't gaining mass public adoption.

Nope but there is supposed to be a 'Last Starfighter' Sequel being made with the same director/writers & lead. Sub-plot has it that 'Xur' is now wanting revenge with the Son of the Last Starfighter getting involved to save the earth....

That's fantastic, ^^ you missed out on Alien war though, the most scariest part I remember was being crammed into a lift by some guy with a gun, then aliens started ripping the doors open and snatched one of the (pretend) tourists. At the time though it was a brown trouser moment.

"The acid-blood sleek-skinned aliens dreamed up by H.R. Giger and Ridley Scott are among the most memorable creature designs in movie history. But Scott says they're "worn out" thanks to endless sequels, and they won't be in his new prequels

yes, there will be 2 preques

I'm sorry, but I disagree with Sir Ridley on that one, the image of the Alien has been abused over the years but in his hands I am sure it would recover it's former glory. Cameron and Fincher I feel did it no harm, but Jeunet on 'Resurrection', and Anderson and Strauss (bros) on the AvP movies have indeed diluted its menace. Fans of the early films can easily dismiss these movies, especially with the promise of the master returning to treat us to some proper shock and awe. Please don't disappoint us Ridley !
