So what are you complaining about then
I'm really glad Cameron has just got into power. I hope one of the first cuts he makes is to the benefits system and people like you. I HATE it when people complain about what they have been given to help them.
There are SOO many people worse off, and all you can do is think about how to take more out of a system that is already overstretched. What do you think will happen then? It means there is even less money to help other people like you.
Its a leak, they happen. Its only just been found, and if you keep the place clean while it gets fixed there won't be any issues for asthma.
Or were you hoping coming on here you'd get advice about how to get enough money for a free Plasma TV?? If you'd come on hear about how best to get your leak fixed you may have got a lot more sympathy.
All you cared to ask about is compensation cash, and that's got nothing to do with your leak. Cash that could be put to better use helping someone else out.

But how can you prove your son's asthma is as a direct result of this??!! I doubt you can! And until then, you have NO claim for compensation....even if you could claim if proven, you may still have difficulties.

yes i do agree, and proof from doctor and the environmental health agency would be the best bet but i am doubtfull, and like u say it would be difficult,if they were to refuse to put it all right then i would have a case, but personally i think they will sort it.i just wanted peoples views on this,it is very likely that my sons asthma is caused by this,im not going all out to claim, but if i thought it was claimable then id be silly not too,i just hope it gets sorted properly and quickly!

rented housing = benefits = scum = deserve everything coming to them

Well if it helps, i'm a lawyer and I wouldn't touch your case with a barge pole unless it could be proven categorically that your son's asthma was caused by this. If you are serious, go to a local solicitor who will give you half an hours legal advice for free. But, I think that you are wasting your time to be honest.

yeah im 99% sure it will, asthma dosent run in the family at all,and he has been really chesty, was constantly backwards and forwards to the doctors,he is on inhalers etc.this all started when there were the first few signs of the damp. coincedence?? maybe but the mrs and i are convinced this is whats started it,especially as it was through the winter and the heating was on,it would have made it worse!funny you should ask as my son asked exactly the same question earlier and my answer to him was yes.

I hate scroungers as much as the next person, but some of the commens here are a bit harsh. Just because someone lives in council accommodation, doesn't make them a scrounger. I was raised in that housing and my family didn't claim one penny in benefits, some people aren't in a position to buy a home.
As for the case here. I would be less concerned about any potential to claim, and be more concerned about getting the problem fixed now, and hopefully your son will get better. If you mention anything about claiming make it more a threat so they will sort this out, sometimes you do need to be pushy to get work done that should be getting done when necessary, you pay your rent after all.
I can see where people are coming from about 'compensation culture' but in fairness, the council should have dealt with the issue (he didn't know the problem at the first point). As soon as damp was reported, it should have been investigated. It would've been a cheaper fix then anyway.
Whether you attempt to claim or not is up to you, but I think the focus should be getting sorted. I do think you should at least make a complaint though.

The day will come when people either give up with this kind of carp, or the country will end up going bankrupt Although, I doubt you care about that either.

You'd be retarded to go for it. You don't need it, don't deserve it, and the money would be better spent on helping someone else.

Is the mess still there? If yes, why are you reading this and not clearing it up. If no, well done I hope your son gets better soon and your repairs are paid for.

its cleaned up,but because this leak looks like its been there for ages its spread into probably a very expensive fix.the repairs are 100% liable to be done by the owners.(not me) not that i would be able to afford the fix anyway as i believe they will have to gut the lot and start again.
