Interested to know what you mean by "organised religion" Martin.
I wonder what the point is of insulting their religion anyway. Whether you support it or not, what is there to be gained by attempting to undermine any of the religions in such a way, and what the hell did he expect as a reaction anyway!
Why not just let them get on with their own beliefs and do just that yourself as well. What was he trying to prove under the guise of free speech etc. anyway?

Im certainly not and would never insult a religion, or someone who followed a religion (on religious ground anyway), I do however save my anger for most religous institutions

the end ?
religion causes war, people are easily led and easily brainwashed no matter the religion.
too many stupid people in the world = what we see in the video orignaly posted. as others have said most muslims are peacefull people. as are most christians / jews etc it just takes a few simpletons..
if you want to know true horror read what the christian church did 500 /800 years ago (the dark ages) makes things we see today seem really mundane
all "EXTREMIST" religion = stupid people that you simply cant reason with
and should be delt with.
watch the video and make up your own minds

Christians were there first to become intolerant of other religious belief systems in particular in Grenada and Toledo, Spain, banning non-Chritians from inter-religious marriages, work and education etc etc and destroyed a priceless library in Egypt. Quite horrific really.
YAY! Go religion! Religion takes us to war. Religion justifies any activity, even it it involves killing 6 million people.

It is quite wrong to say that religion as such causes war etc.
It is often used against its own teachings as a medium to foment trouble but it is always people who cause the war for their own selfish reasons. They would not be supported in that by the teachings of the religion concerned.

I think all religion is FUBAR. There's an older woman who drinks at my local pub. She's fiercely Catholic and even goes on trips to see the pope.
Anyway she's one of the most judgemental people I know and every now and again a debate happens amongst the locals that has religions over tones. She blindly follows what the church preaches.
As an example of religion being anachronistic... the Catholic church IMO don't deserve any respect in modern society until they change 2 simple things:
1. The kiddie fiddling stops and everyone connected with it are outed.
2. They advocate use of condoms... How many unwanted pregnancies or diseases spread because of this single 'policy'?
I just don't get it

Alternatively get impressionable angry adults and do the same to them then you could well end up with the same - especially if the are impressionable and easily led and lets face it plenty are.
If you teach them that committing acts of violence to protect or avenge their god/prophet/sacred cow/whatever then that's how most will behave.
IMHO it is idifficult to imagine myself going this route from the comfort of my British standards, way of life.
I hope this does not come across as patronising or stating the obivous

I must have been lucky with my school. We were given an honest run down of a series of religions and it was left to us to decide whether we thought religion was acceptable and if so which one to pick.
Can't get much fairer than that I reckon. My parents did not try to influence me either.

The older I get the more I realise how crap my school education was for the real world. My RE classes didn't even mention other religions! I couldn't wait to give up the classes when option time came along. As a 12 year old I instinctively know that Adam and Eve, the virgin Mary and the Ark was a load of rubbish. I mean cummon!
I used to be at the top of my class in English but one day they the teacher suddenly announced 'right today we are going to learn how to spell properly'!! Turns out they started us on ITA and we have to learn hot to spell all over again!!! I flunked English during the GCSEs and today I still often spell things the ITA way. FFS. Thank heaven for spell checker in Firefox!!
Then at about the same time they started us on algebra. I HATED algebra and put my head in the sand waiting for the next topic to come along. Bugger me this became the most important topic for me (now an engineer) and years later I had to take extra lessons to catch up.
Then more recently things I knew to be true turned out wrong. Hello Pluto. Now we are told the solar system consists of the Sun; the eight official planets, at least three "dwarf planets" and more than 130 satellites of the planets plus a large number of small bodies...
Tomorrow something you know is true because everyone always said it is so might suddenly turn out to be wrong!!! They didn't teach us that at school...
I think this is one of the most important things to understand. Knowing something doesn't make it so.

I found English alright, and history reasonable, and I really enjoyed Physics and Chemistry. There was a logic to that which seemd to be easy to follow. Our Science teacher was particularly good at the job. I was rubbish at more advanced maths. We had a retired maths teacher who knew his stuff but was unable to put it across. The only people who were good at that were the naturals at it. I managed to muddle my way through the other subjects well enough if not that good at any of them. Funnily enough I found algebra logical as well.
They are going to continue to find out things which undermine what we thought was the answer in earlier times. Sometimes they will be right!
Your last sentence is so very true. its a good one to take to heart.

Here is an interesting development.
Pakistani authorities have ordered ISPs to block access to Facebook ahead of an "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day" planned by users for tomorrow.

It just seems to me that it is a matter of tact and common decency to just leave it alone!
