Price jumped from £25k on launch to £27k in June 08 . I know because i still kick my self for waiting . The poor exchange rate was blamed. Has any body on here, actually had a trade in price quoted ?

I'm not sure what you mean about buying new being restrictive? Surely, I order what I want and get it ..... the secondhand market is where compromises need to be made.

The Civic Diesel is cracking .... I never thought I would hear myself say that about a diesel - but, it's just so good on so many levels.

But, I suspect the residuals on the Impreza Turbo's are going to take a hiding when the Tories unleash their budget on everyone ....... £500 Road Tax for starters, fuel costs hike, just hit, hit, hit ...... and honestly, how often do you use the power these cars are capable of? My car may see 3000 RPM once a fortnight, nothing more than that.

The boot seal leaked. Wet back seat at boot carpet. One day old, it was back at the dealer (twice) to be resloved. His Mrs has reversed it into a post as she can't see out of the back, and don't forget the Type R is actually slower and has poorer handling than the previous version. Also if its a 3 door, try putting the driver seat in your position, get out, fold seat forward as if to let someone in or out of the back, then fold seat back again and see what position it goes back to.

Just traded my 58 STi hatch which I bought new Sep 08 in against a unregistered Legacy 2.0d SE NavPlus. (kids eh..) Pick it up on Friday. I got 18750 trade in - 15k, unmarked, untouched. Paid about 26 for it, so 7250 depreciation isn't too bad

Still got mine Scooby L

Now if a Focus RS500 came along I would be tempted Which would be cheaper, trade in my 09 STi for a Focus RS500, or get my STi wrapped in matt black vinyl

PS Lewis - could you please explain dual zone climate control? One for the inside of the car & one for the outside

Depends what you paid for the Legacy .... they can be had for £14,999 at SGT in Taplow - let's assume you paid £5,000 more than that - means that your Part Ex. was £13,750!! That's not that great a deal ....

Part exchange values are massaged - hard cash on the nail is where the true price is found ...

Certainly .............. it means that you (the Driver) can select a temperature for your side of the car and your passenger can select theirs - seems mad, but it works!

The Subaru just has the one temp. of course ....

My LR has duel temp.... waste of time Pete I'd not lose too much time mulling over that... if your passenger wants a different temp to you (ie colder) it does not have it's own fan...they share the same unit..so all u get is more air coming at you your side as well... u just end up keeping them the same temp eventually

Yes it's just a ruse - think of it as just Honda marketing execs blowing hot air (no pun intended)

I thought it would be pretty difficult to persuade the air on the passenger side not to mix with the air on the drivers side and come to some sort of average temperature arrangement. Kind of difficult to cheat the laws of thermodynamics really

Er..., no. Thats the old petrol model (08 MY if you look closely) I bought the new £28k Deisel. I'm not stupid, I'm an engineer. Have bought many cars over the years so I know if I've got a good deal or not.

Please tell me you haven't paid £28k for a Legacy?

Now, great cars they are - and I think Subaru's are fantastic - but, £28,000 is well and truly in Audi S3/S4 Quattro territory ...........

I'm no fan of Audi's, but, taken purely as a Residual Value view (the Topic title) .... the Audi is by far the better buy.

We buy any car basically use auction prices to value cars.
The take the auction price of ropey high milers and apply that to low mileage good examples.
Then they charge an admin fee so that if the car fails to make auction price they still have profit dialled in.

Its a fair system and they survive because of idiots spending too much of their disposable on cars and needing to get rid when it comes on top.

Simples.

In fairness the old shape cars available through supermarkets in the last few months were only £18-19k or so new. The diesel was always expensive and the new model is much bigger - plus it only comes in a pretty high spec.

Having said that, the new model appears to be a backward step in most respects other than space. The old one drove like a big Impreza, the new one is based on the Tribeca platform and drives like it! As a Tribeca owner I can assure you that that is not a good thing!!
