I live just at the top of north london, so the furthest point away. Where does jolly green monster work from?

KBM, pressure test is putting the coolant system under pressure (simulating the same stresses it would be under when system is under load) The beauty of it is that you can do it whilst the engine is nice and cold (you just need the correct pressure test kit adapter)
Have you checked the carpets around the front footwells to see if they are damp at all, or does your cabin mist up when there seems to be good weather?? Reason i'm asking is that the heater matrix could be leaking coolant. (this explains why you can't see any coolant on the tarmac or engine bay area)
It's a possibility and worth a quick check mate.

I will check as the car does steam up sometimes when there is no need. I rang a garage about the pressure test and they said they charge £95 for the work. That sounds a little extream.

Idealy I need to find somewhere near north London/ near a tube line. as if I need to leave the car I can get home again. I just need a competant garage who wont atomaticaly say it is a head gasket and wont charge £2000 if that is the problem.

Tom, Look up slowboyracing they are based in Kent (rear brands hatch i think), not a million mles away, you could probably get the trian back to victoria and then tube it home.
They know thier stuff and don't rip people off.
Or there is TFS racing in the surrey area (JGM knows them) Might be worth a phone call
