Why would I want a diesel? Becuase they are now better than petrols .... simples .....

I hope you have specified rear parking sensors on your Civic as they have approx zero rear visibility, especially in the rain with no rear wiper.
I suppose it will mean you won't be able to see the queue of cars behind you!

0-62 8.7 against 9 seconds . You're really going to notice that! Power and torque of the scooby are higher! 5 door practicality against 3 doors. 4 wheel drive, against 2 wheel drive. Think of that week every year when the 4 wheel drive will come in handy, (apologies to you guys in Scotland who see more of the white stuff than I do in the S.E.!)

That said, my registration stuff turned up this morning .... the original plates can now go on my old girl - this is really going to happen and I'm really concerned that I am doing the right thing
I just know what's going to happen, I won't want to sell her when the chips are down and end up putting her in the back of the garage for years ahead ..... when I'm in the ground someone will clear my house and come across an old original one owner 20 year old Impreza Turbo tucked away under a blanket and 'restore' her to her former glory!?

Pete,
That's a very good and sensible choice
Just one thing you posted that strikes me as strange. The bit about how could an engineer be happy thrashing an engine in such a manner.
An engineer should be happy in the knowledge of just what has gone into making the type R engines run so happily at high revs. A CTR at 8000rpm is no more being "thrashed" than a diesel at 4500 rpm.
Don't get me wrong, I can fully understand why day in day out the diesel is a better car than the type R, but being unhappy to rev it for someone with even a vague interest in engine technology shouldn't be one of them. Being unhappy with the comparative lack of flywheel torque maybe, but being worried from a mechanical sympathy perspective is just very odd.

I was brought up not to thrash engines ..... I acknowledge that the Honda engine is designed for that treatment - but, I simply hate doing it - it's hard work too!
Once you let the revs drop you need to build them all up again, what a tedious way to drive ... my boss sealed it for me, he owns a CTR and wishes he didn't ... too much effort to go quickly he says, he would get a diesel next he says.
Looking down the line .... I bet it will be very hard to sell a petrol car in 3 years time, certainly one which had a diesel option. It's just how it is.
Thanks for the on good and sensible choice, BYW

Gave it a last look over on the ramp this afternoon before it goes on sale. She still looks good underneath ..... no rust, solid as ever.
I shall park it at work with a For Sale sign in the window on Monday - I've sold 95% of my cars to people I know at work. Not sure this specialist car is of general appeal though! The Apprentice School shall have it parked close by one of the days next week .... give them something to think of in the toilets instead of Playboy
