No, the ultimate answer is V6 type RA with a 6 speed DCCD conversion and post V6 engine. Now we are talking

tx the rb5 engine wise in all fairness is a glorified uk turbo no offence to the rb owners, the sti comes with better engine better turbo better gearbox and it's not soo much the power it's the way it is put down, rev'ier engine, shorter gearing and the vf28 pulls harder and longer than the td04 that was ftted to the uk cars. The sti 6 is far better and will make for more dof a weekend / track car.

Although the bug sti is a better base model if you wish to mod it further, stronger engine, stronger 6 speed gearbox and the sti come with the gold brembo brake setup fix them with a set of performnace friction disks and pads and the brakes are all good to go.

If you want straight out of the box fun then a sti 5/6 would be my choice as most would of had a few choice mods and will be good to go but if you wanted to mod it in the future And take it over the 400 mark then dare I say it the bug would be my choice just as it's a better base car to start with

Bugeye STi for go.
We finished one last week, which has to be the sneaky traffic light racer of the decade. It looks absolutely stock, yet has a 567 bhp stroker in it. You'd never imagine it would make a GT3 look stupid!

I own RB5 322. Ended up modding it to 330/320. Actually just bought a Type r box as well. Lovely car and a WR sport but british salty roads have taken there toll on them. Do what i should have done in the first place and buy a Type-r is RB5 colour and yes i would go for one with a rebuild or a fresh import and get it mapped straight away.

if its a weekend car then i'd want a type r sti ra, that has got to be the top classic ever made, but if i wanted a daily drive i'd go for the bugeye just for the extra gear and comfort.

how about an sti ra, basically a 4 door version of an r , lightweight, dccd ,short ratio g/box and can be had a lot cheaper than an r

in fact i bought one v4 mind but well happy with it and its standard, bring on the td05/20

I had to make this choice as well a few months ago. Given that mine is a daily driver I ended going for a bugye STi with the PPP and I have no regrets. The Sti v5/6 was also on my wishlist but insurance for the bug was considerably less and it seems to be more reliable, better to tune, better cabin, 6 speed box etc. Plus despite the 'ugly' reputation in the flesh it gets compliment after compliment. Local estate agent came to value our house in his company 1-series a few days ago, saw my car on the drive and ended up giving my parants a 10 minute speech on how he loved it and how he'd hopefully get one like it soon with his bonus lol...

A 2.5, in a Type-R, now that's sexual....

Stevo210 has one, and she's fabulous fun, MK.II Escort style.
