I put a small CCTV camera up above our till, you can see where the notes have been put, 20/10/5`s all go in different places.
Not had anybody trying it on for a while, mind you i gave somebody tooooo much change a few months back, i kinda twigged, but couldn't be bothered to ask for it back, the git looked at it all confused (which is what twigged my brain back into this reality) , smiled and put it back in his wallet, it works both ways.......

At my work, out of all of the times I have covered on the tills, thankfully I have only given out the wrong change a couple of times, but realised straight away and got the till opened to rectify. Not all cashiers will realise their mistake, but at work if there is a dispute, the till gets taken off there and then and checked. As said earlier, it could be a problem if other mistakes have been previously made.
Was this a small business? I ask as it's not always possible to check the till straight away if say they only have one till. And generally they do have the policy of checking change before leaving, there is far more comeback in larger stores. Even if the till was checked and your missus has been told it has balanced, they could be trying it on, but regardless I doubt no matter how much she kicks off, she won't get the money back.
