Maybe a poachers/hunting rifle which are legal in the UK with the appropriate license.
IMO we don't need another knee-jerk ban. it won't work anyway; those unhinged enough will just bury them. Much like I belive there are probably 1000s of unregisterd Brocock air revolvers still floating around the UK (which can be modified to fire live rounds).
If it turns out this guy had a firearms license, then what need to be addressed is the vetting/review criteria when renewing. I know when I applied, the checks done were pretty basic (they paid more attention to where it was stored more than anything).

I can't believe that someone on here is saying that atheists or people without religious belief of some kind have no moral compass. Human beings are moral because they are social animals and they evolved that way. They're not kind, altruistic and thoughtful because God is standing over them, FFS.

Just watching the media move into full 'wallow in the carnage' mode. They make my blood boil the way they behave over things like this. I swear one day they will set up a death totaliser for such tragedies and get more and more excited the more deaths come in. It's very sad what has happened but FFS enough already.

I don't think it's so shocking. Yes it's very unusual but it doesn't take much for the fabric of society to unravel. In today's times when people are under more and more pressures if they have the means there to act on some feelings then the potential for bad actions is there. Once you've crossed a line as this man did then he may have seen no going back and the mayhem ensues. It may come down to a planned spree or an opportune moment caused by a weapon to hand and an argument that got out of hand.
One thing I often consider as somebody who believes this life is final and there is no god or afterlife to face that if you were to do something like this then there are no real consequences to face if you are prepared to deal with yourself at the end of it. That final bit in itself goes against all normal animal instincts but it does mean that in the personal battle a person may face these acts carry less weight. I guess in a world with people waking up to the fact that there is no god we may see more acts like this...

Society generally binds together because people are prepared to follow natural law and religion as a whole tries to get people to follow that path. That cannot be said to be a bad thing surely. I hate to imagine the state of a world with no kind of moral guidance.
