I was very lucky to be able to do exactly what I wanted and would not have missed it for anything.

I was not a fighter jock but in fact the low level ground attack role which was my major job was far more interesting. Flying fighters sounds like the tops but in fact you basically scream off into the blue, have a mock dogfight or two and land back on after a short trip without much fuel left, after a while that tends to get boring because of the lack of variety. I used to enjoy a bit of dogfighting but not all the time.

Low level ground attack is great sport and we also used to get around the world as well in the "tin triangle". The very best fun was to get up in a Canberra B(I)8 with the 4x gunpack in the bomb bay and shoot up a ground target on the range and do some dive bombing at another target with bombs mounted under the wings. We also did LABS bombing which involved doing a half loop from ground level and throwing the bomb forwards partway up the loop and continuing the half loop to roll out and fly off in the opposite direction to the initial attack track. All that was to avoid the after effects of a very powerful bomb in the real case. The interest was always maintained because you were using the aircraft to achieve a positive result and the recorded accuracy was down to how well you flew it. Bit like playing darts

Never got bored with that and I still miss it now!

But then he'd have to kill us all....

Never bothered, but Concorde pilot would have been cool, "just off t'states see you at tea time", with a Northern accent.

I cant imagine it is at all acrobatic, commercial planes rarely are, flying is pretty boring on commercial flights, you rarely get any sensations of flying at all, I would really love to feel some G force, a Stall and all that stuff, under complete control, especially in a commercial airliner as its just so wrong, they can generate some G but obviously when full of passengers is not the time to do it, this is one of my favourites,

Or this, sat in the back, it would be a little alarming to say the least

I wanted to be in the Music Business. Careers adviser recommended the same. Got sent packing to one of the only colleges in the Country doing it. Went on to be a Sound Engineer & Producer.

Then I thought about training.... so got into Lecturing (something I still do now along with music)....

However, I'm now thinking about something else.... more of a challenge. Something to stretch my capabilities..... don't know what though......

That is the dilemma of a mid-life crisis!!

But job-wise, I've always done exactly what I set out to do

I so wanted a career in motorsport. Not driving but mechanic of some kind. Used to know a girl who worked for Williams, she used to bitch like heck about having to go away for the races and really didn't like it. Her BF and me would give major limbs to have her job and she bitched about it constantly.

I would love a model shop - Model planes & cars, railways, Scalextrics and R/C cars. All my favorite toys.

No I would agree J4CKO. It was interesting to watch the 707 rolling. If you watch closely you can see how much height was lost on the second half of the roll. This is the problem with a large aircraft since the nose will drop appreciably during a barrel roll like that and you have to get the nose pretty high at the beginning of the roll.

Some prat tried that at Biggin Hill once in a B25 Mitchell which was a good aircraft but he got it wrong and ploughed in killing all on board.

You would be surprised how well the good old VC10 would go with a light fuel weight as we sometimes had on a take off from a close airfield and return to Brize Norton. It was designed with hot/high takeoffs in mind at Nairobi and on a normal day at a low altitude airfield it would depart like a rocket! It would do very nice highly banked wing overs too. I always thought it would do a good air display but Transport Command would not even consider that!

The Comet would also do a good display as a Nimrod and they used to do that until one crashed at the Toronto air display.

You'd have loved it J4CKO!

I very much doubt it Big S, dont know how good the control response is and you could get into big trouble with excessive speed and loss of height on the second half of the roll.

i always wanted to be an artist/designer, but i paid absolutely no attention at school and my dad told me to get a fvcking job. damned investment banking. pays well, but it's super dull.

i regularly see the privileged life of scuba dive instructors in the caribbean, egypt, asia, etc and I think if I was 20 now, i'd so be doing that !!

This thread has somewhat stirred me, as a boy I wanted to join the Army and be a soldier just like my Dad for the UDR/Royal Irish Regiment but in my teens I fell out with my Dad and in turn fell out of love in following his path. So since then I've not had a single job I've actually passionately wanted to do.

I now am stuck in lowly sales which i used to be brilliant at but now just don't have the drive or hunger for and completely lack direction.

I struggled at school, It was always hard work for me ..... I should have given up and gone outside and kicked a football about .... Thats where the money is now !

One of my classmates wanted to be an actor .... he was always in the school plays and drama classes. Im sure he didnt know it would amount to much ... His name ???? Orlando Bloom he's living the life now !

I would rather think making money as an agent is pretty hard work, no?

Similar, I wanted to be a copper for a long time so I joined! But then left as I found it wasnt all it cracked up to be. The days of Gene Hunt are over, I spent most of my time sat in a station, doing paperwork and eating. It really affected my health as I had put weight on since joining.

Kinda wish I was born earlier and could of policed in the 1970/80's. When you could chase people around with sticks and give em a good hiding, these days its all about policy, rules, law, human rights, bull**** and regulations.

Police arent police these days, theyre social workers.

Rant over.

However, I am colour blind so didn't even get to fill in a form

Now a Mechanical Engineer, trying to stop chemical plants from blowing up.
