Classics more expensive than bugeye. Why?

Mind you I would still rather have an S202 (no disrespect intended unlike Mr Lewis).

This is what I believe also.
I loved my first classic, a 320bhp MY99, but sitting in my mates bugeye, it just felt better put together, better finished interior etc.
But at the same time, it didnt feel as good to drive hard. The classic feels more like a rally car. Smaller, more nimble. Then again, on a long journey the bug is the one I'd want to go it because its not as raw..................
apart from JDM STi's .

It was blue and vin no was 100 less than mine, the New Age cars are 120% stiffer in the body but heavier,if I jack mine up on any corner the doors all shut, whereas Classics I have worked on do flex

I have spent 2years odd getting every bit of info possible,to a point show me a vin plate I probably tell you what car should be underneath it.I believe all this goes back to Sept 2000,Subaru wanted to export Impreza world wide so you had to have a car that, could handle usa impact testing, emission friendly, practical car.The Japs came up with the Bugeye but the press slagged the model off so bad Subaru changed its front end before exporting.Back in 2000 the company needed a portfolio of cars saloons, wagons, sport saloons and wagon so a handful of STI Wagons were built in the same factory. No one in Japan will give me any info, makes me wonder if it was the model they wanted to forget! Funny in those days Subaru listened to what the public wanted now they feed use with designs that would make an Allegro look stylish.Look at the other picture Nissan,Ford, has a large investment in Subaru, are they going to allow them to buid a car that will undermine their sales? I think not, sorry if I sound cynical seen it before

Some really tasty stuff on here. Low miles and all Jap Spec. Equally the prices are just as tasty due to the ****e exchange rates.

Rest easy, there are a lot more than 5 but definitely rare. Saw a few of the bugeye STi wagons on the road in Japan in my 10 years there but not as common even as an S202. Were 2 S202's in my area alone, both beauties and it's the only bug I would own.

It didn't have a model report though meaning it couldn't be SVA'd. There for it would have to be kept untill it was 10 years old before it could be put on the road
Classics rule!!! Best second car iv ever had

When I was looking to buy my scoob, I was surprised how bugeyes were more than classics!
I really really wanted a classic though as a child I saw McCrae win the WRC in that car, and now that I am old enough, more or less wise enough , and can handle the insurance (now I'm 25) I can have the car I wanted as a child!
Also I'm keeping the scoob as clean and tidy as possible, as I reckon it will hold it's price now as good examples of classics are getting rarer.

Unfortunately demand & supply & exchange rates dictate the prices of such cars. As well as the desireability of one model against another. IMO its very similar to the prices of Porsche 993's vs 996's or even E30 M3's vs E36 M3's.

I have 2 bugs and 2 classics and can't believe how the price has dropped on the bug's, but having said that look at the price of a good evo! there still an old car (5/6) with a high premium

Classics are by far the nicest looking Impreza.
I've said many time that unless I could buy a UK blob STI with DCCD and the wider rear track then I wouldn't spend more on say an 03 blob than on an 02 prodrive bugeye. Theres about 3K between a prodrive bug and a blob sti and there are effectively the same car. I'm not under any illusion the bugs are pretty but if done properly (i.e. more or less left alone) they don't look too bad.
Theres a silver bugeye WRX near where I live and its a perfectly good looking car.
What does suprise me is the premium on a UK300 over a standard bugeye. A good couple of grand for pretty much F all.

Link to a garage that I have used in the past a few times, you get some real gems occasioanlly as they import direct, plus the trade ins.

I wanted a classic originally when i first started looking but I realised as per original poster you get more for your cash with a Bug and with the right mods they can look good
I'm quite chuffed with the looks of mine now although a classic is prettier I dont regret the bug decison
they grow on you (like mould )

i have a completlely standard uk turbo 2000 classic and i love it to death, but as stupid as it sounds inside it looks like an early 90's car. sliding **** for blower speed? to me they had them back in 1993 in the old mk4 fiestas
if someone offered me a standard bug saloon then if the insurance would let me id probabaly swap and fit morretes on the bug, STI rear spoiler and other bits and would be more than happy with it, i cant see the front of the car whilst i driving
in summary - love the look of the classic, love the refinment of the newage, shame i cant combine both!
also the interior and comfort of the bug compared to the classic is night and day imo (having been in both)

I started off with a couple of classics then went newage sti and spent a fortune to get it upto 380bhp only to realise that it still wasn't as good as a classic so sold it off and bought a P1 even had the choice of a Jdm hawkeye with the type 20 kit but still choose the classic
As for the classic interior, just fit newage seats and dash if you want to give it a modern feel!
