The comment is subjective, based upon the writer's belief, which is not based on experience and therefore cannot be relied upon. The signal problem which he experienced with both his phone and laptop on another network is objective based upon fact and therefore can be relied upon.
So all we know from that article is that the signal strength in that area is crap and the writer has pre-conception about the phone itself based on third hand info.
Someone of your intelligence should know better

The point of the article was to bemoan the lack of 3G connectivity and usefulness of the new range of smartphones because of this.
However, in the middle of the article the author took the time to single out the Apple iPhone 3Gs for having specific issues both in his opinion, but also implied that it was in the opinion of others.
As I share his opinion based on my side by side testing of the phone with other phones and at least one other perosn on this thread reports the same issue we can summise that just maybe there is some truth to the argument.
This is further backed up by Apple's statement over improving the antenna and back of the iPhone 4 to overcome signal strength and reception issues.

"it does seem to....."
Subjective opinion (again) based on what? Internet bloggers??
There is no doubt that there has been massive interest in the Ipad - but its a new product for Apple, so hardly shiny new toy. There is no doubt there will be massive interest in the iphone 4.
In reality, however, is it any worse with Apple followers than anyone else, or is it, as I've said above, all just media hype because, ironically, it appears trendier to knock apple followers these days than (what the anti apple hype suggests) it is to be one?

Do you see queues of people outside electronics stores at midnight for the new HTC/Nokia/Sony Ericsson/Blackberry... phone?
QED!

My DEXT and 9700 can sit side by side on the desk, BB with full 3G and DEXT with pi55 poor signal..... Both on Orange. At home it can be the complete reverse. Work that one out

In general I get a usable signal wherever I go, so that does me just fine these days lol

I like new tech as much as the next nerd, but draw a VERY bold line lol.
Apparently there were 40 people at the Regent St (W1) store for the iPad launch, which in fairness as most were in at least pairs, is pretty unspectacular.

I am just going by what I read in the media (dumb I know) that around 40 people camped out over night to get their iPads.
Who turned up at a more reasonable hour a couple of hours before the store opened is another matter

2) I've seen queues of people outside stores at midnight for numerous games consoles (and even some games), large department store sales, God knows how many "must have for Christmas" toys, etc, etc, etc....
And to be honest, there were no queues at midnight that I know about for ipads in Scotland and I suspect the same will apply for the iphone4.
Taking America out of the equation and looking at uk and european users, do you really expect the need to have one on day 1 for 99.9% of potential iphone4 purchasers will be any different to that of any other similar item?
You could look at it another way - let's consider sales volumes.
The iphone4 will probably outsell the competition massively. If you upscaled all the HTC/Nokia/Sony Ericsson/Blackberry (take your choice of make) buyers, you could probably find enough saddos who would queue up on the day of release to get one and generate some media attention.

As for your other comments I have no idea what the relative sales volumes are of phones although I would wager Nokia sell way more phones than Apple.
And yes I do think there are a good number of the Apple faithful that want a new phone on day 1 and yes I think it is a higher pecentage than for other similar products from different manufacturers.
Anyway the phone launches soon so we will see.

"Staff cheered as throngs of excited customers made their way into Apple's flagship store in London.
A small number of Apple fans keen to get hold of the handset had started queuing at stores overnight and numbers swelled to around 300 for the launch."
And that was the first launch of something that was, at the time, very much ground breaking.
And lets be honest, the BBC cameraman was hardly going to photograph the ordinary looking bloke in a suit? The same BBC, that is, that paid people to queue outside a Northern Rock branch when the **** first hit the fan, because there was no one there when they turned up to film the "panic"

I went to the Apple store yesterday to get an iPad, sold out, wasted my time, now if I'd have turned up early on launch day I have no doubt I'd have got one. So, turn up early, walk away happy. Turn up late, console yourself with a Whopper meal.
Really wish I'd got one, sitting in a field in miserable weather would be so much better with a bigger screen.

Still reading conflicting info lol.
Some say the 8110 was used in the film but the 7110 was released after the film to make it for the demand on the market

I have just bought an ipad clone run ning android and didn't have to queue anywhere. I mainly bought it as a tester as my contract is due in August so I wanted to see what an android sytem was like before I get my new phone as I will either get the new iphone or the newest android phone as long as its running a 1.2ghz snapdragon cpu as its capable of better screen res than the iphone so time will tell.
