Yup the media build them up but as soon as they fall the media usually pick out a fall guy for it

England should take things one game at a time but they dont, as soon as they qualify the media come out with all of the usual hype the football songs get released pretty soon everybodys going yayyy were going to win it then you get humped and knocked out and everybody is left wondering just where the **** its all gone wrong.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience in Edinburgh, there is no excuse for that type of behaviour anywhere.
My comments are indeed genuine and reflect Scotsman's earlier post for any of the Home Countries.

Your 100% correct but unfortunately both sides of the border has it's fair share of arseholes

Some of the best guys I have worked with offshore have come from the South side of the border.

No disrespect to peeps from Edinburgh (or anywhere else in Scotland, as I like anyone from anywhere if they are nice), but we were refused a drink in a pub there just because we were wearing Newcastle shirts. Hopefully that was just down to not accepting footie tops though, rather than our team/where we were from, which I think is more likely. Wouldn't have thought they'd care too much in the middle of the day when nobody else was in, but as with many places, policy is policy. Doesn't make me have any bad thoughts about our neighbours.

So true, a minority always spoil things.

I speak as someone who never had hold of myself, but even by my standards, he's let himself go.

I wouldnt worry about that, we were out in Edinburgh the other week ( 12 Scotsmen without football shirts on ) and they wouldnt let us in a pub because of the number of us. Only for about half a dozen English guys in fancy dress to walk straight in

I dont really get why scotland wouldnt support england, Id definatly cheer scotland on if they were in it. it seems the majority of scots would go out of their way to let you know they would rather support anyone other than England. something that seems to be forgotton to often is the fact its just a GAME.

I don't think it is the majority of Scots who go out of their way - although clearly it is a significant number who can be very vocal about it. Perhaps I have an unrepresentative sample, but my wife is a Scot (& so are all my in-laws, unsurprisingly), and between them and their many Scottish friends, I'm yet to meet any who actively support "anyone but England". Several don't care either way about football, but that's not nationalistic!

I suspect it's probably more like the way a lot of English people (myself included) like to see Man U lose, you get fed up with the hype etc and there's a certain ironic humour to it.

I certainly dont want England to win the World cup, but it doesn't mean i'll be dancing around the streets when they go out, im just not all that fussed about them.
Im just looking forward to some really good games over the next few weeks.

"Meanwhile, to a certain breed of Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish fans, it is either a natural expression of friendly rivalry with one's near-neighbours or a necessary corrective to the perceived arrogance of an English-dominated media, which appears not to be able to discuss a soccer tournament without copious references to Bobby Moore and 1966. 34 mentions so far..........

Less than 3 Mins into the BBC coverage of the URUGUAY v FRANCE game 1966 got a mention........

Were not anti English, were just fed up hearing about 19 bloody 66 FFS!

Its the same thing every two years.

I'm a Scot, I want England to do well aswell. That doesn't necessarily mean I want them to win it, but I do want them to do well. Quarter/ Semi final defeat on penalties I think.

They have the potential to win it, most of us Scots realise this, we are just too proud (or stupid) to admit it. The English premiership is the best league in the world, us Scots love tuning into MOTD and even watching championship football before we watch our own SPL league.

The English teams also dominate the champions league year in year out.

It's childish banter for most of us Jocks, we don't really mean it. If we were that much against England we wouldn't be watching Eastenders, Corrie and tuning into MOTD every saturday night to watch Rooney, Gerrard and co.

Additional to all of that. The world cup would be sh*te without them, just like the Euros were 2yrs ago.

I suppose it just boils down to us Scots being bitter and jealous that the English have something that we would love to have. Celtic and Rangers attempts to get into England for example.

I disagree I'm not jelous that they are in it and were not and I think most other Scots are the same, what pisses me off is the constant drivel and bull**** we need to put up with every two years.
