The last euros was terrible without them, this world cup would be exactly the same if they were knocked out in the first round.
I want them to get to the Quarters/Semis/Finals, I love watching English football. I'd rather watch Cardiff and Blackpool play than Aberdeen and Kilmarnock, im sure the majority of football loving Scots would do aswell so I dont get the hostility towards them. It's just childish nonsense.
Again, I'd rather watch England vs xxx than France vs Uruguay, I nearly fell asleep. If it hadn't been for the swarm of bees in the stadium, I probably would have.
Its a cut your nose off to spite your face scenario. Some Scots want the USA, Algeria and Slovakia to beat England and when they go out, the tournament becomes a lot less attractive.

That's just a lame excuse used by most of us Scots
It's something i dont really enjoy either but I wouldn't let it go as far as I hope England get beat.

Am in the I dont support England camp but today I will as its them or the big headed USA, who dont even call the game its proper name, they think they are better than the rest of us. I am a Scot and today I'll be supporting England regardless of 1966. Am watching the World cup first and foremost for the football. You also make a very good point when England get knocked out it becomes rather boring. I dont see all the hype either though why should Scottish/Welsh people support England?
Most people in the states believe they are playing the Great Britain the day anyways

As for in earlier posts commenting on '66. Well whenever you watch any kind of competition where the team playing have won it, then there is always a reference to their last win. For example watching SKO v Greece just now they have mentioned greece winning Euro 2004 and SKO getting to the semi's of 02 WC quite a few times. You will always hear about the team that is playing and their most successful run/win in a competition, it's natural to refer to it.

for the 1994 world cup I was (and everyone I knew) Irish for four sodding weeks, right down to drinking Guinness and thinking of taking up plastering as a trade
and it was the same in every pub in West London
I remember Houghton's goal against the Italians like it was yesterday - fantastic

History has shown that when Scotland (or Wales or NI) have qualified for any significant championship and England have not, the scale of the "support" from the various forms of the UK wide media has been practically negligable by comparison.
Question for the English members on this BBS. In all seriousness, if Scotland had qualified and england had not, how would you feel about your TV being filled with news, features, adverts, etc, etc, etc all pro Scotland football team.
Would you really give a rats *** about how many Scottish houses were decked out in blue and white? Woud you want the Saltire featuring on who knows how many drinks and snacks? Would you wnat to watch endless tv programmes and features with Scottish comedians raving on about the Scottish game?
Somehow, I doubt it. And that's the crux of it. We have been so turned off to the England football team that many people in Scotland would support anyone but.
We've actually been joking today that an England win would be a good thing, for the simple reason that it would be a nice change to hear 2010 rather than nineteen fecking sixty fecking six rolled out at every possible juncture.
I don't have any problem with England as a country or its people. My best mate is English and many of our neighbours are. I support Engish competitors in many other sports. I even supported Hill over Couthard in F1. But I cannot bring myself to support the English Football Team in the World Cup.
And for that reason, I'll be supporting anyone but England (and Argentina, for that matter). My English mates have no issue with that, and my English neighbours have no issue with that, and its all good humoured banter.

Differences being of course Man U actually has a decent team and a global brand. Go to africa or any far flung part of the world and you will find kids and adults in Man U shirts who know who the team are. Go outside Glasgee and try to find Rangers top or someone who would recognise one and you'll be lucky.
Man U stand a good chance of getting out from under their debt![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)

Usually because England are the only team that qualify! And all the media is english based.

Yes it was 44 years ago - and how sweet it was !
I was only 21
Tights had still to be invented
The Beatles were in their prime
No muslim terrorists
I could park up in London anytime any day
We had home internationals !
I was still using a slide rule
