I watch England play but don't follow the league or other cups, give me motorsport any day

Don't get how so many people let it rule their lives. Guys come into w*rk Monday and talk none stop about every match that went on over the w/e, read about it all day on the net, read the papers, call & text mates, probably go home and go on the net again, watch MOTD, chat with mates in the pub, neighbours over the fence etc etc. Any mid-week matches are a filler to get them through to talking about the weekends upcoming games which sees them checking out the net/papers etc all over again, before clocking off on a Friday to go to the pub and watch, actually go and watch, and then start again with the analytical dissection of every nuance, facet and technical detail right down to the colour of the refs under-clackers. Every week, all year long, even during the short break between seasons where they discuss who's transferring, getting fired, retiring or whatever. And mostly, most of them are disappointed, p!$$ed off and frustrated all the time 'cos where I live they all either support Leeds, or obviously right now, In-Gerrrrrr-Laaaaand ! FFS, get a life

same here, cant stand the game too many lightweights with fake injuries watched by fairies.
rugby on the other hand... had to play union myself, would have prefered a spot of leaque.

What Corradoboy said. Some people at work are like that and I some times feel like saying if you used as much brain space for useful stuff as you do memorising these useless football facts you may not have been at the bottom of the pile right now!
Even though I keep telling them I'm not into football they keep waffling on about it to me. They'll say things like 'did you hear xx just got transferred for £gazillion?'

Similar to Simon C I played rugby and hockey at school and very much enjoyed it. Never played as a hockey goalkeeper thank goodness, and we learned the hard way never to play a women's team at the game. Evil bunch they were and it was a painful experience. Rotten cheats
I don't follow football normally and prefer watching cricket as much as anything, especially the 20/20 or 50 over games which are comparatively lively. I will watch good football especially at an occasion like the World Cup but so far have been bitterly disappointed.

Another one here who doesn't care for football. My mrs's son came around for his dinner the other night. He came in the lounge chanting "what's the score" and proceeded to switch on the TV. Then he turned the volume up and walked back into the kitchen 
All I could hear were thousands of mosquitos!
WTF this is a no footy zone. I was sat in the conservatory, duly closed the door and continued reading the paper in peace!
I tell you what though, the roads were deserted last night. Had a great drive whilst, it seems, the majority were watching the crappy game somewhere

I can enjoy watching a good match and appreciate the skill, but by and large its just not that interesting to watch, most games arent that exciting.
I am always a bit suspicious of rabid football fans, ok a passing interest but anyone who is totally into it in my opinion is a bit strange, one of the bosses at work does all his spreadsheets in his teams colours and you can guess his mood based on how they did at the weekend, why does it matter ? why would anyone be in a bad mood about a group of blokes kicking a speherical bag of air around that they havent met against another group of blokes from another town ? its not like they even come from the areas they represent, they are basically big companies nowadays, I never get excited when Tescos or BT post their end of year profits either. I realised last night, I really dont give a toss if England win, it makes no odds to me, all this national pride and effort expended on football, perhaps that effort would be better spent elsewhere, say they win, load of national pride, woo yay, feels good for a week then forgotten, but we are still up **** street, whatever happens the players (so far all pretty crap) go back to their 100 plus grand a week, fighting outside clubs, crashing supercars, ******** bimbos/other peoples wives and generally being overpaid, underperforming ********.
I think for a lot its usually a male bonding thing, I generally switch off when football conversations start, theres a bloke at work that thinks I am a fellow United supporter as I go to the odd game with the kids, he starts these conversations like "What do you think about Phenobarbital going to Inter Milan" and I used to try and have a go at replying but now I just say something like "I havent got a clue" and remind him that I dont have any idea.

Like most here, I cant stand it too. A lot of things **** me off about it, the faux rabid obsession, the stupid metrosexual haircuts and the doublespeak of the officials, but the worst for me is the diving. I would love to be an FA ref. I would end up sending off half the pitch when they go down like a sack of **** at the slightest touch and then roll around on the floor like a pillowbiter until a nanosecond after the the other team has been penalised then they are fine.

Have to say I'm no big fan of football. I might watch the odd bit of a WC game, but that would be my limit. I'm more into motorsport, and no doubt the footy fans would feel the same way about that as I do football.
I recall being round a friends place and he was crying as his team was losing, I just found that very odd indeed.
Oh, it also seems people can be *very* touchy if you happen to say "It's only a game" when their team isn't winning
