Listening to Radio 1 made me think....
Are there people out there who are finishing work to go and watch this afternoons game?
They did a 'bit' on the show where they named and shamed employers who work not allowing their staff to finish work.
Now don't get me wrong, I know to some people football is very important.
I can't help but think this is taking the micky slightly, and that people are moaning they are having to stay at work.
Anyone else had the same thought?

One game in four years that people need time off for and employers arent giving it!
No one will want to work during that time and productivity will be minimal so whats the point in trapping people somwhere where it costs to keep them and they all want to be somewhere else?
Im off till friday but if i was at work i would do sweet **** all to make a point!
Decent employers will sort it out but if you work in retail you will have to be open for the one old giffer who wants to bring something back while the footy is on!
Its should be a national holiday!

When I worked I could have happily felt the 'need' to be somewhere else. I know fir a fact all the people at my old place will be working until 6 as normal.

Loads of companies have given staff the time off. Probably as the Bosses want to watch the match more than the staff
It was a breeze getting home today, hardly any traffic. The pubs were packed though

Carrot versus stick - we Put up a 50" screen on each floor and provided beer and snacks.
2 hours time well spent in terms of people thinking this is a good place to work as is evidenced by circa 60% of the staff staying late ( 4-5 hours late apiece) last night to be able to enjoy today.
Most are staying on now as well even though their contractual hours are 830 to 530.
If I have got it right the OP is not male?

The missus was home early as her school closed for the match
I finished work at 11am anyway, and spent the best part of the afternoon installing a right PITA new hard drive (it took me fecking 2 HOURS )

Fair play to the people who have put in some extra time for the luxury.

We were given no option to either have the time off, or work different shifts and tbh I never expected that. As I work in a shop and they weren't going to close there was no real choice. That said, they might as well have let at least some of us go as there was virtually nobody in the place from about 2pm until I finished at 6.
In fairness our boss did say it was ok to go off the floor and listen to it on the radio (couldn't get it anyway). We eventually managed to pick up a really bad signal on another radio so I caught about 20 minutes or so of the second half.
My Mams place and a friend of mine both had the choice to have the day off if they wanted it.
It really depends on the business, some can manage without full staff for a day/half day, some can't.

i managed to do all my bookings in the morning thinking no one would come in during the game . sat back in my nice chair , feet on desk , tv on , coffee in hand , 10 mmins in , some old biddy in a micra rolls up ," i think i have a puncture but i dont know whick one , the garage said i do" then sprend the next 50 mins removing all her wheels and checking them for punctures in the tank and removing the tyres to check rims to find she has no punctures , **** knows what garage she goes to , main dealer trying to sell her tyres i spose !! was slightly miffed to say the least as i missed most of the game .

It was good as to be honest, if we lost we were on our way home so that made it a very exciting and tense game.
It wasn't a nice game to watch and it was a very nervous 90 minutes I was hoping for a 2nd goal to give us some breathing space but they kept us on the edge of our seats didn't they I was also trying to work whilst it was on but it wasn't easy to keep up with the game, my priorities were wrong lol

Staff moral is one thing but most people were using it as an excuse.
Out of most people who I spoke to about football yesterday, I would say the 1/3 of them were leaving work early, or duties were 'on hold' for the match, but less than half of them give a hoot about football. They just seemed to jump on the bandwagon about wanting time off.

Spoke to the lad i left in charge yesterday, he said the car wash was busy`ish when the match was on
Strange though as its is usually dead when England play.
Glad they won though, i still have 6 pairs of them gash car flags to sell
