Funny enough i just bought a 1.4 derv metro 17k miles for £995 and the first thing i noticed was the suspension was better than my old mans new getz, it has no pas no leccy windows, no central locking, nothing just the ecu to keep that pug lump running.

Im quite impressed by it, for a little rot box it's nippy and so far reliable, amazing mpg as well.

I had one of these as my first vehicle back in 1985.(van was a 1982 'Y' reg)

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2603/...630611bd5c.jpg

No temp gauge, no radiator, no power steering, had a choke, any key would fit the door and to get the key out the ignition you had to bang a button under the steering column

We used to call it the Frank Spencer-mobeel

How times have changed....

H reg Metro GTA - loved it. Only had four gears, would get stuck in reverse if you went above crawling pace. Breaks were shocking, was full of rust, no power steering, manual choke and a 1275cc engine.

Had the wide alloy low profiles wheels / tyres, the little plastic spoiler on the boot, and the go faster stripes down the side of the car.

I used to drive it like i was escaping the law. there was no real way of stopping and cornering was by appointment

Great days
My co-pilot had one of those. He managed to survive it until he got a Lotus Cortina which did go round corners.

The bit about the cat food tins and jubilee clips brings back a host of memories. We learned how to be resourceful alright!

'survive' is definitely the more accurate way to describe running about in my 80 GLS lol

i must have been impressed though, as i bought myself another 80 1.8, 1987 model, afterwards.

my driving didn't 'improve', until i got me one of these
