VF28 potentional?

'Possible' yes. But very, very much the exception... rather than the rule.
Most get 330odd. 340-350 possible if you rinse it.
It'll just be 'chaos theory' of the supp mods/engine all coming together, if you happen to get 370+...

tweaking and tuning the car around this turbo. Regardless of getting 370 or not an 11.80 on a sub 370bhp Impreza is pretty special.
I may get a power run in on Tuesday.

just an update, ive just spent saturday stipping and rebuilding my scoob, fitted turbo, injectors, up pipe, oil catch tank, fuel pump and a 3 port solenoid, had to fit a new turbo intake so had the manifold off too, all in all a hell of a days work lol only thing is that occasionally on idle theres a whistling noise?? doesn't always do it- may be idling fine, just dab the throttle and as it drops to idle it will start? sounds from turbo area- i can put my hand on the heatshield and it changes or goes. the shield is all tight and proper so im thinking harmonics from the turbo?? hopefully its ok, any ideas anyone?

Well, yes, other than spending ages fine tuning your set up to make the most, of course....
It certainly is. Fantastic!

The rest of my spec is as follows:
Walbro 255 fuel pump
Nismo 550cc injectors
Carl Davey parallel fuel rails.
Fuel lab mini FPR
IHI VF35 with ported wastegate and uprated actuator.
Autobahn 88 FMIC
Forge 4010a Dump Valve
Apexi AVCR boost control
Apexi power intake and silicone turbo intake pipe.
Simtek ecu with als
Afterburner manifold, uppipe, down pipe and centre section with TSL group N back box.
I think that's it, so not a massive spec but great results all the same.
Cheers Iain

Pretty sure its a vf28 in my sti5 made 334bhp an 311lbs mapped by andy forrest.
Sports catted downpipe into an HKS Hi Power, HKS panel filter, walboro pump an a diet of V Power - standard Sti5 tmic, 440s and no Adjustable fuel pressure regulator.

That its some going for a uk spec car with simplair setup to yours.
I'm now thinking your might run more than 370 just for the fact its a import with different internals wether that makes a difference or not. if not 367 is blood good for a vf35 i would say. I'll be happy once mines mapped with me vf35 too

The only real differences are the heads, my tubular headers, the parallel fuel rails and fpr, apexi boost controller and the gearing.
Mine is also lighter and has different gearing too, it is quite a bit faster but I would say perhaps 10 to 15bhp more but we will just have to wait and see.

I'm going to be running a vf28 on a forged 2.5 coversion. I'll only be running it for as long as I get funds put away for a 321t or sc46 billet to bolt on the new block. Does anyone know what kind of power/torque the vf28 will run on this? I'm not hunting for power at all, just a safe map until bigger thing go together! I'm thinking it should be pretty lag free on a 2.5 though.
Rough engine spec:
ej257 forged internals
2.0l wrx heads chambered for 2.5 and fully ported
full 2.5" decat
tubular headers with harvey 'modified' up pipe
hybrid fmic
650cc injectors
sx fpr
uprated fuel pump
parallel fuel rails
upgraded plugs (not sure if ngk 7's or 8's, views welcome on these please)

7's are more than adequate for upto 500+ bhp normally.
VF28 is obviously the limiting factor in all of that. It typically does 320+ on a 2.0L, so anything above that should be expected on a 2.5L. But prob not a lot more, as I think the VF28 is on its limits at c.320-330 anyway. But the 2.5 will give a decent wedge of extra torque over a 2.0L (if not so much more power)...

Thats what I was guessing. As I said, not really wanting more power or that just now, just a safe map to do me until I get myself a 450bhp turbo bolted on. I actually have a set of brand new ngk 7's, so sorted with them now.

I'd ask the mapper to be generous with the fuelling and/or ign. retardation to make well safe.
Just think, if you wrecked the motor on the 'tide you over for the meantime' VF28, how gutted you'd feel...

Yeah. I agree, that would be the worst case and a total ball buster. Mapper will be made aware of situaton and future plans.

You should see somewwhere around 310-320hp 355-370lbs torque on that set up
Cheers
