Lol true. Basically I realised that 1k wouldn't buy me a watch I'd be 100% happy with. Especially after seeing some of the nicer options

Anyway, we've gone up in price now, so back to the Hamilton
If you can find a Breitling Superocean II for £1000 let me know. I'll buy 2 of them.

Why have Breitling gone up so much in the last few years. I was shocked at how much mine had increased by in a 5 year period. is it just a sign of the times or is there a stainless steel shortage?

I think my comment at the bottom of that post covered it off.

£1000 watch for £700

I do of course charge a small 5% fee for my time, effort and contact, but still a saving of 25% off cost. Done it for quite a few scoobynetters already
Fancy that - I was trying to remember which member offered to do this for me a few years ago...

An Oris dive would be my recommendation, that or two Longines HydroConquest automatics (a black and a blue)...

Nice timepieces the Longines.

I have a Tag F1 Indy 500 as an everyday watch, paid 900 for it a year ago and it still looks new!

Im after a monaco or a nice carrera as a "dress" watch!

Obviously depends on what style of watch you like, chronograph's are fine but if you don't use it then why bother, once you have shown your m8's down the pub how it works, it's redundant!
Plenty of original and replica's that are good out there

I use mine every day at work to time cooking my lunch. It's easier than doing mental arithmetic or bothering to take my iPhone out of my pocket to use the timer on that.

A few beer tokens well spent, I'm sure you'd agree. Looks nice too...

Waste a grand or more on a watch if you want but after you spend it you will realise its a waste My Rolex has cost a fortune in the years I have owned it due to servicing and insurance and I very rarely wear my other watches due to watch snobery
Is it important whether other people know whether you are wearing a real watch or a copy?

Interesting thread. I love Brietling. I read this thread and laughed at the comment about Easyjet pilots.

I work in an airport, and take the crew bus every day and noticed that nearly all young Easyjet pilots have Brietlings. :-) Many of the older pilots tend to have Omegas.

Mind you, this is only a passing observation, as 95% of the time Im eyeing up the ait hostesses ! :-)

This is also very true, i have more genuine watches returned than replica's mostly for being inaccurate (Rolex especially) but side by side theres very little difference apart from price obviously
