TBH i've only got a Turbo 2000 Wagon and I regularly get my *** handed to me be these small hot hatches.
Even had a Seat Ibiza running a hybrid turbo catch up to me after 80mph and it's was scarily quick low down
Not quite the car I was hopin for, what kinda power do these scoobies need to be really quick.

i had a little turbo pocket rocket behind me at TRAX silvertone it was pretty dam quick, as said all about Power to weight
If i had my Bridgestoneon he would not have seen me for dust but I was struglling on corners with Crap TOYO's.
I did let him by when I stopped a TVR spun in front of me He was not as brave when he was leading so soon passed him

My God... that piece of misinformation is STILL doing the rounds?
This is my very first post on Scoobynet, amazing to think after all this time I still have to refute that comment

i have a redtop n/a corsa with a chipped ecu and various other bits roaded at 175bhp really quick for a small car and will give most things a run,,,, the turbo'd corsas on the other hand are a BAG OF BEANS i cant take mine round a corner steadily on 45's with loads of grip,,, never mind twice the power which the tuned turbo is,,,
being quik in a straight line doesnt mean jack,,, if you cant use it all round then you myt aswell sit down,,,, thats why i still have my subaru

Thing is FWD with way to much power is the best thing to learn to drive in, anyone can drive a 4x4 quickly without to much skill, stick them in a 250bhp fwd car and then see how well they can drive
Depends what you want out of a car, i have had 5 silly power FWD cars exactly what i wanted a bit of fun and a challenge,
Best ever was a fiat uno 1.0 with power to weight ratio of about 290bhp / ton on 165 60 13's Cracking fun nothing to do with going round corners fast did not buy it for that

otherwise your just understeering all the time (unless you like straight lines), if you want to learn how to drive "properly" then get yourself a rear wheel drive car

Sorry adam,a good point ,but a 250 bhp front wheel car will either torque steer like mad,or when giving it death in the bends understeer like crazy.Evo's & scoobies are very easy cars to drive quickly, and they inspire confidence the more you drive them, and the 4 wheel drive systems means you can nearly drive as fast in the wet as you can in the dry.
My mate has a 300 bhp wolf racing focus and dispite having lsd,in the wet the wheels spin like a washing machine on spin cycle. IMHO try driving a 300 bhp rear wheel drive sierra cosworth, when your trying to get the power down & keep it pointed in a straight line& fighting with the steering wheel all at the same time, now that imho is the best thing to learn in .Big power, low grip, rwd & lots of tail out action, can't beat it imho.

I would say so tony, i had a cavalier turbo years ago,it was good in a straight line, but when going round bends at speed, due to the 50/50 split in the transfer box,it would understeer like crazy, which was easy enough to correct -just lift off the throttle and apply more lock.
The sierra cosworth i had would wheelspin in 2nd in the wet,and in the bends it was like a hooligan. If it started to oversteer(66/34 split) ,you couldn't just lift off the gas ,you had to correct it,otherwise you were normally in a field with the car on its roof .

a nice straight 1/4 mile drag then.... proves the power/weight ratio of the Corsa is better.... not sure it addresses any of the other points in this thread?
My STI could whoop my old Cayman in a straight drag race to a ton... but the Cayman would run rings (literally) round the STI once it got bendy....
same with the Corsa/STI argument,
Ford have invested thousands trying to get their FRS to handle 300bhp..their eventual solution?...limit it to 180bhp in 1st/2nd..... are we saying Mr DIY Corsa enthusiast has found the secret? LOL...laughable..
