I'd have another Scoob like a shot, but I don't have time to enjoy it. The Fabia earns me money and pays for itself as a driving school car, and is pretty much the fastest thing you could insure and use for that. If I was in the market for a 10-14k secondhand motor then it would be top of my list. However, if I were spending 30k I'd be on my way to Somerset for an Atom.

Ive owned 3 Scoobs, and never paid more the £580 per annum with excess no greater than £400. Im 25 miles from Bradford (East of Skipton) and my currently policy is with Kwikfit. Policy with them at 32 with 6yrs no claims, another named driver, parked on street with commute to work, and all mods declared was £540.

Sold car now though.

Try Kwikfit online, worked for me. I think I went through a broker first (money supermarket, elephant, confused etc etc) then went on their website direct. Never used them before and never had the need to conact them other than to change the policy due to selling the car so I cannot comment on their service if you needed to claim etc. But the price is reasonable. I think Norwich union was close too (currently Aviva). Ive never felt the need to ring a peformance specialist insurer as im prepared to spend a full day on the internet to save a few hundered quid on insurance renewals as some insurers are now taking the ****, and the loyality seems to have gone out of the window. Soon as renewal is up, I'll guarantee all inurance premiums will be up bar new drivers and guys turning 30......

But comparing Skipton to Manningham is like comparing Windsor to Brixton

Was up there a week or two back taking my lad on the Embsay Railway

The Type S diesel is a far superior car to the Type R ..... so much so that Honda have stopped making the Type R.
Not that i doubt you for a second ,but 4 of my staff have honda civic type r 's - 2 x 54 plate & 2 x 57 plate, and the interesting thing they all seem to enjoy is being able to make good use of the vtech engine and rev the engine to 8000+ rpm without a conrod coming through the side of the block.
If the type S is a superior car please explain,as i dont see it being as raw and as savage as a type r, and clearly the insurance companies dont either, hence lower grouping. What are the 0 - 62 times, top speed, torque & handling like compared to the type r. The fact that honda have stopped making the type r,bares no reflection on the new type S.ALL car manufactures are feeling the pinch and are well aware of the current economic climate, with honda producing hybrid cars and greener engines, this might have influenced there decision.

All I can say is, "Take a Type R out and then a Type S Diesel"

That's what I did (by accident) the rest is history.

I went to buy a Type R ... seats a bit tight for my ample 4rse ... revving an engine to 8500 is barbaric IMO. Dealer said, "Try a Type S" - "We only have a Diesel"

I replied, "I will not be buying a diesel but will look at the interior and seats"

I took the Type S diesel out within 10 minutes of the Type R .... same roads, I was blown away ..... I did NOT want a diesel .... but the fun, the driveability, the turbo rush, the torque, the pull, the pull, the pull ....... the Type R didn't come close (too easy to lose revs and then have to build them all up again!)

37 - 6 points - claim in 2006 - 700 for my bug and 750 for my lexus.

I tell you what I love about diesel drivers eh.....

I sooo love when they put on a plastic glove to fill up there motors, gives me a laugh every time!!!

I had a 320D BM, and never again do I want or wish to own a diesel!! never saw more than 40mpg - ruined a set of trainers when I got some diesel on them!! and so hated running out of puff getting up steep hills!!!

I have the impreza for fun and when looking at a big motor for 30K miles a year bought a second hand Lexus GS450H - 35mpg consistantly and 350bhp to boot

Everyone's worrying about tax and insurance and fuel. Buy a new BMW or Civic and watch the money flow from your pockets as depreciation hits - that's the real loser of cash. There are still not many more performance bargains than the scoob. Bought my Bug three years ago and it's not lost a great deal of value. Agree - if I had endless pockets or no brain and a desire to get in to debt, I'd pop down to the showrooms and buy a 335d estate - awesome engine great car. But with brain in place and normal sized pockets it's the scoob every time. The doom mongers on this site are very funny but it gets boring. I love driving my scoob. End of.

I see your point.... I often drive through colne to get to the M65, but since the bottle necked Valley road is a bloody nightmre before they built the "new sainsburys" on it, I now avoid that bit of road at all costs.

Back Roads for me now, lol.

So this week I have tryed to find a reasonable quote for my 2006 WRX and the best I found was around the 800 mark.

What is going on with the the Impreza as I can insure a brand new focus RS 100 pounds cheaper than I can my scoob.

Have insurance company's joined the Government to kill the scooby for good as the sums for owning one are starting to look real bad.
What you have to bare in mind is that Impreza's are at a price level where the young can now afford to buy them. Young drivers, on average crash more than older drivers. The more claims a certain car gets, the more insurance goes up on that car for everyone.

A New Focus RS is not going to be bought a young drivers unless, A) they have a very well paid job, or B) their parents buy them it.

Many years ago, I swapped a 106GTI or a Clio 172 (Big mistake) and the insurance was less for the faster, more expensive Clio.

Something wrong with your mates Scoob then because at 4am this morning a vRS tried to get away from my 230bhp V6 Cougar and couldn't. I was stopped at traffic lights and he rolled through them as they went green. Cougar only has 200lb torque. At the next lights he just sat there staring at me while I smiled sweetly back...

Nothing wrong with Dave's Fab, I had a wee try and it confirmed all my suspicions after "her indoors" had a TD Nova on a K plate (that was an eye opener, even back then !).

And to PSL it sounds a lot in Nm, but my 2.0 STI manages almost 500 Nm....

Bradford, not at all surprised, the insurance companies are all wise to this and subsequently the premium will reflect the postcode, even for a nice area of Bradford. You can thank all the lazy, good for nothing scroungers who have turned this scam into a living and affected everybody who has car insurance
