Well because the government is full of corrupt *****, how hard is that to understand??? The people affected by the floods are just regular hard working folk, a little empathy would go a long way as would a little help.

It could always be you and yours in a situation like this, would you want cheap jokes and buck passed to the government in your time of need or would you take any help given?

That's quite right Les.

And in the bigger scheme of things we should appreciate that we are simply lucky to have been born or brought up in this country. If the dice had been thrown differently years ago then who knows where we might be now.

Politicians of any country are far more interested in a seat at the Nuclear Top Table then spending any cash on the people, even when they are in such dire trouble!

Anywhere can suffer from flooding really.

France had it very bad last month (or maybe it was June), and we've had it happen in several places over here in the last few years (Cumbria, Gloucestershire, Cornwall, etc), so you shouldn't tempt fate.

Obviously we don't get it as bad as the ones in Pakistan.

Good point Gary. Given global changes in climate it does seem as though flooding is becoming more prevalent. We've had it bad in recent years in Boscastle, Yorkshire and Cumbria. There but for the grace of God. It does seem as if the new millenium is heralding a plethora of natural disasters.

Not sure about that. The population of Pakistan has grown dramatically from 30mio in 1950 to more than 170mio now. Any out of the ordinary natural disaster there has the potential to affect 140 million more people than a generation ago.

Natural disasters is natures way of purging the population ... harsh as it sounds there are just too many people for the earth to support. It will get worse, much worse as the population grows

Only cos people now live in areas where once there was no need ie not enough room in areas where there are no / very few disasters. You get the population building up along a fault line or beneath a volcano & it's really only a matter of time before you have a catastrophe.

Yes, it's called natural selection and evolution. Take the aids epidemic in Africa - it wipes out the weakest and uneducated (not the stupid). The catholic church adds to the ignorance by preventing safe sex out there.

Well I see the SN heavyweights are now ganging up with "they don't deserve any help" and it's just natural selection.

But of course the people that are suffering are NOT the government that screws things up and wastes money big time but the peasant families who have no say in politics.

But if you think 14 million people don't deserve a helping hand that is your free choice. dl

Donate all your wealth to the 3rd world and go and live in a yurt if you feel that way, but don't think 'cos you donate a tenner to charity it makes you better than me. At least I'm not a hypocrite.

Don't throw that cheap jibe at me old son.

I don't feel better than you and I don't even know what a yurt is.

Is that a valid reason for refusing to help those people who have been made homeless and lost all their possessions as well as family in a natural disaster.

I think you need to get your thinking straightened out!

Would I be correct in thinking that a majority of the Taliban training camps on the Afgan border are up in the mountains and not affected by the flood?

I must say I am in the natural selection camp and feel very fortunate to be living the life I do. I just hope Yellowstone park doesn't erupt in the next few generations, some experts say its overdue.

So you don't believe in giving any aid for those who have lost everything then!

All my charity donations are split between cancer research, the MS society and CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young). I don't give to any other fund, be it red nose day or whatever. I do fund raising for my childrens school too, I have set principles so go easy on me
