Well because the government is full of corrupt *****, how hard is that to understand??? The people affected by the floods are just regular hard working folk, a little empathy would go a long way as would a little help.
It could always be you and yours in a situation like this, would you want cheap jokes and buck passed to the government in your time of need or would you take any help given?

That's quite right Les.
And in the bigger scheme of things we should appreciate that we are simply lucky to have been born or brought up in this country. If the dice had been thrown differently years ago then who knows where we might be now.

Anywhere can suffer from flooding really.
France had it very bad last month (or maybe it was June), and we've had it happen in several places over here in the last few years (Cumbria, Gloucestershire, Cornwall, etc), so you shouldn't tempt fate.
Obviously we don't get it as bad as the ones in Pakistan.

Good point Gary. Given global changes in climate it does seem as though flooding is becoming more prevalent. We've had it bad in recent years in Boscastle, Yorkshire and Cumbria. There but for the grace of God. It does seem as if the new millenium is heralding a plethora of natural disasters.

"... So the UN are telling us all to donate our hard earned cash in an attempt to raise £290 million to help save the victims of the Pakistan floods. If we don't, so they tell us, many more people will die.
Just out of interest you might like to know that China have recently bunged Pakistan $200 million to help support their space program. Oh, and only 10 days ago the Pakistan Prime Minster said that Pakistan will never compromise on it's $2 billion nuclear program".
I can't really speak for Pakistan but suffice to say my financial priorities don't concern the victims of a couple of heavy rain showers and bit of flooding either. I'm too busy paying for other things too ...... like food and a roof over the head of my family.
So ...... if anyone at the U-f$cking-N is reading this, very sorry and all that but, charity begins at home and I suggest you relay that message to both the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan.
In the meantime ...."

Natural disasters is natures way of purging the population ... harsh as it sounds there are just too many people for the earth to support. It will get worse, much worse as the population grows

Can't be bothered to read any more of this thread but just seen this ... http://grumpyoldtwat.blogspot.com/20...ng-appeal.html ... from the GOT. Just about sums the whole thing up.

Yes, it's called natural selection and evolution. Take the aids epidemic in Africa - it wipes out the weakest and uneducated (not the stupid). The catholic church adds to the ignorance by preventing safe sex out there.

Well I see the SN heavyweights are now ganging up with "they don't deserve any help" and it's just natural selection.
But of course the people that are suffering are NOT the government that screws things up and wastes money big time but the peasant families who have no say in politics.
But if you think 14 million people don't deserve a helping hand that is your free choice. dl

Donate all your wealth to the 3rd world and go and live in a yurt if you feel that way, but don't think 'cos you donate a tenner to charity it makes you better than me. At least I'm not a hypocrite.
#77
Sure and we enable that gov behavior by bailing them out with this disaster and other charity/aid.

Don't throw that cheap jibe at me old son.
I don't feel better than you and I don't even know what a yurt is.
Can't we have different opinions without insults these days?

Would I be correct in thinking that a majority of the Taliban training camps on the Afgan border are up in the mountains and not affected by the flood?
I must say I am in the natural selection camp and feel very fortunate to be living the life I do. I just hope Yellowstone park doesn't erupt in the next few generations, some experts say its overdue.

All my charity donations are split between cancer research, the MS society and CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young). I don't give to any other fund, be it red nose day or whatever. I do fund raising for my childrens school too, I have set principles so go easy on me

Yes if it perpetuates bad government and suffering in the long run.

Never realised how many co cks were on this forum. Just put yourself in there position or your family. If things were the otherway round am sure we would want help.
