I heard on the Beeb that World Bank are loaning $900m. That's quite a wedge, even for WB.

It will be interesting to learn what is planned for the money. Unlikely the loan will be paid back for a long time, if ever. dl

This thread just seems to attract vile minded retards. It's funny that none of them seem to be able to string a sentence together, use a full stop or spell.

No wonder this place is becoming like a ghost town. I would never talk or mix with such small minded people in my everyday life, and god forbid should my children have the misfortune of being in the same room as the offspring of these people.

This place has turned into the worst council estate in the country, filled with bigoted, ill informed, uneducated vermin. The sort of place I'd really not like to visit even if there are a few decent people still living there.

Why give to charity? God will surely help them!

Personally I don't do charity and I certainly don't do foreign charity mainly because I don't like foreigners.

Not stereotyping then about the sort of people who live on council estates?!

Maybe you should hang out on pistonheads instead? The old men TVR drivers are more middle class and educated.

That doesn't actually make sense.

You should grow up and stop thinking you're some sort of superstar DJ. You're not, you're just another little kid playing with his crappy decks in his bedroom pretending his life isn't as mundane as it really is

You still haven't explained any of your previous ridiculous, misinformed posts. Maybe you would like to now?

1) Which countries have high culture?

2) Please name some of the many 'track day weapons' that have 600 BHP twin turbo charged V8 engines.

Exclamation

Shame this thread has descended into a personal slanging match, it is a serious subject, if you do not like what people are posting then here's a thought:

IGNORE THEM AND DO NOT RESPOND

Simple enough concept really isn't it.

Likely outcome of this p*ssing competition is that the thread will become locked if it carries on like this.

I suppose it's a difficult one really - I mean how do you actually give a country $900M.... and what's more how do you ensure that it's actually flowed to the organisations that need it ensuring that it's spent appropriately over such a vast region.

To me it's always been a case of there's no actual way to do any of that, it's almost a case of throw a pile of money at something and hope that at some point it reaches those in desperate need.

Shouldn't this be a centrally driven and non-political solution, so in essence it should be 'owned' by the UN and the disaster managed through their professional involvement. In industry there are departments in large companies that specialise in Business Continuity or Recovery (post incident) why doesn't the UN do a similar thing by focus on preserving life?

I suppose this raises more issues than it answers as it then becomes difficult to leave once you start handing out free food, but there has to be a better way of managing these types of incident from a global perspective rather than a local one.

Have you noticed Dingdongler how these rather ineffective would be trolls are never able to answer a question about their rantings when you ask them a straight question?

Yes quite right DCI. I only hope that there is a very close control on all that cash to ensure that it gets used for the purposes for which it is being given and not sliding sideways into various private bank accounts!

DCI's point about controlling how and where this aid goes is why I sometimes find myself reluctant to give (when I have the means to).

Over here when giving to charities it seems there is less corruption and the money/other aid given does generally see the target more often than not.

I hate to sound generalistic but if Pakistan received said $900 million, would there be some fat cat at the top creaming a section for themselves?

Default Dosh from Donors

One, understandable, problem facing the donors is trying to involve the local community and not just impose terms and conditions. The IMF are the only ones who really call the shots in that department.

But the "local" involvement gives plenty of opportunity for creaming off the funds sometimes right under the noses of local donor representatives.

The banks could stop a lot of it if they weren't such greedy b,astards by refusing to transfer large sums into foreign bank accounts.

Yes Les, at least Pete does make an effort. This new idiot TDW has cornered himself about 20 times in about as many days with not even an attempt to answer.

With today's element of unprincipled greed among so many of the world's leaders in general COB, I would be very surprised if there wasn't.

Default A bit more in the kitty

I hear that the Asian Development Bank have now offered a $2 billion loan.

Now that's serious money and we can only hope that some of it will actually go to help the people that need it with an emphasis on technology transfer i.e. taking steps to minimise risks from the next flood. But I won't be holding my breath.

The partly corrupt government, if they believed in Christmas, must think it's come early

How on earth they are ever going to pay it back is a mystery to me (and to them I suspect).

I could explain them, but I think it's pretty obvious what they mean to be honest Les. It has showed what some people are really like from both sides of the argument. Am i going to name them? no because i don't really think they will change their opinions.

For the record it wasn't directed at you Les, as you're one of the most balanced posters on this forum IMO. Not that you'd be worried what i think
