15 seconds+ in a scoob-LEARN TO DRIVE

Getting beat by a van is acceptable though. Watched the Goodwood festival of speed on Sunday: a bloke had a transit running a jaguar V6 and was ridiculously fast!

(Side-steps speed argument )

some of these old skool carsare quick now with modern engines in them.
So you're not quite in the +100 club then.

I also had a Nova 'race' me once - coming back from Billing Aquadrome. His was a turbo redtop running over 300 bhp.

there is a corsa running around 300 in newcastle!
and my posting about impreza's having a bad name was that people like your mate doing 150 dont help the rest of us nothing to do with what car you have or have not owned!

Im joining in as seen it numerous times with local clubs, people have died that I know from both sides of this fence speeding and being caught up in speeding etc.

Oh and as for the head on at 70 each way is 140. But I was meaning your higher 3 digit speed when things happen ALOT quicker and you have less time to react no matter how good you think you are. Atleast as 70 you maybe able to control your car more and scrub off some speed if something happens but at 100 plus your just along for the ride. Atleast I could live with myself if it was me as knowing i was travelling at correct speed etc then just a cruel twist of fate.

I too have speeded, upto around 90ish is my limit if I deem it safe (though no such thing really on public roads!!) and thats very VERY rare. If someone wants to risk themselves and possibly other people but going further then I pull over and let them get on with it.

I just hope nothing ever happens and you have many miles of happy driving so im not putting my boot in matey, just heaven forbid if something did happen as would have to live with that doubt everyday. The "what if I was going slower" thought.

Back on topic. . . . cant wait to go to pod again and beat me some transit tin cans . . whoops mean vans!!

Evening lads, My son built the van and it is running at the mo about 220bhp, but is going to be remapped, after that it will be running around 270-280 bhp, I put this on here as a Suburu fan and a laugh, not for people to slag each other off, If the Combi is mapped like is Astra van that he owned that was pushing 300 bhp plus.
Cheers

Saw the van, wasn't the Scooby race though. My mate has a Nova, red-top on throttle boddies. He ran a 13.6 last weekend. Last time we were there he made an STI bugeye look a little silly, and that was before the remap.

Scoob could well have been an n/a, I've never dragged mine but I'm pretty sure that's the sort of time it would run. I haven't rally slagged mine either though, and I don't have a bonnet vent, so I'm not even pretending it's something it's not ;]

If he wants to drive at xxx mph then that's his look out ... we can all drive at whatever speed we like & suffer the consequences as appropriate. How do you know that it wasn't at 3am on a deserted road? He might also be a pro rally driver.

dont care how you dress it up 150 is stupid on a road at any time no matter what level you think you have driving skill wise!
animals can run out late at night foxes badgers etc! tyres can blow out no matter how expensive they are! and lets not forget the odd drunk on his way home from the pub!

Doesn't matter what time it is. Granted it's better when the roads are empty if you're going to speed but you never know what is around the corner. Pro rally driver or any professional racing driver lol. He wouldn't be bragging about it if he was. As he wouldn't want the bad publicity.

150 is a dangerous speed where ever it is done! road, track or airfield!
it is just different risk and i agree it is alot more dangerous on the road and its illegal,
but say if your on the track and have a high speed crash with someone and you kill them! you will still have a family with no dad and no husband so you would still have to live with that as well, just because its on a track and its legal it is not going to help you!
so as its already been said its down the individual to wot risks they want to take and as i have proven in my other thread there are ppl that want take that risk and do.
so once again its down to the indivdual and while ppl produce and tune cars that will 2 or 3 times the speed limit ppl are going to do it like it or not.

You (and granted a few others) just don't see the whole point do you? If it's on a track the people there are expecting others to be doing higher speeds. They have this brought to their attention in the briefing and the disclaimer that they sign. 99% of the people on the road aren't expecting a big ego'd plonker in his car to come up behind them / towards them at such speeds for the pure fact as you have stated. Those speeds are illegal on public roads. They haven't signed a disclaimer that some numpty could end up killing them while they're on their daily commute or plod to the shops.

point taken mate,
but i dont think a disclaimer would help your conscience but thats a risk you take well!
and i think this conversation is done as i accept you and some of the others dont agree with this at all!
and i accept i wont change your opinion and to be fair your not going to change mine
but thanks for th discussion

100% agree. No disclaimer or even an accident at low speeds will ever help you if you've hurt or worse killed someone through driving. There'll always be what ifs.

It has been a good discussion. But nope you won't change my mind. Hear too many horror stories from a family member who has been involved in cleaning up people when they've been splattered over the road. Through driving too fast or drink driving and just straight forward accidents. Worst bit of his job is telling the families that their loved ones aren't going to walk through that front door because someone thought it was ok to do X mph and lost control etc.

Now back to the van. I want a go up the strip.

Pretty simple solution to that one, don't take anybody in the car on a trackday, that way if you do stuff it big time your the only one going to feel it.

plus the fact everyone on track is wearing crash helmets. Have been briefed regarding what you can and cannot do, and tracks where 150mph is do'able, will have long run offs or kitty litter...

At no point have I said I haven't exceeded the speed limit in the past. Just because I own a car capable of circa 150mph doesn't mean to say that I'm going to try it.

I've got a knockink in my car so not quite PSL
