Still worth getting it checked over by the pros as well - its expensive if the whole engine goes big time !

Hi bud, I can't make out where this is are u looking underneath the car or in engine bay? Was told to check this before but being a noob didn't know where to look?
Also I've been checking my hoses and it appears that the one coming from the actuator has quite a lot of oily residue and u can see it shining on the actuator nipple hose any ideas?

Ok so the other problem I'm having is that when I floor it I get 13-14psi when turbo kicks in but only for a second then it drops to 10psi, then tapers off higher up the revs, I know the latter is normal but why does it drop to 10psi first? Is this normal for the small td04??

Ok having spoke to central Subaru today on the phone they said or could be the actuator so I've done the old connect a hose from turbo housing to actuator and see if it runs at actuator pressure (.5 bar) and low and behold it did bang on 7psi, and it was the nicest and smoothest it's ever driven since I've owned the car! However 7psi isn't the desired amount i was hoping for! So what else could it be having changed boost solenoid, pipework, maf!! Getting frustrated with it now! I'm still to put oem recirc valve back on as I'm having difficulty finding all the hoses. There is one vacuum hose and one larger hose connected to the hks ssqv. Also I thought the ssqv couldn't leak boost as it wasn't spring type?
Help guys! Ie splitpin! Gurus etc
Oh and I've found out I have still got a catted downpipe it's straight through the rest of the way Ie no mid box, and
I haven't found out if the up pipes ok as I couldn't find a socket to take the shield off it

I presume your still on the standard intercooler, so when fitting the standard dumb valve I would purchase a new dump valve (dv) gasket that goes between this and the intercooler. At the moment you will have a little pipe off your manifold to the dv, this applies the same with the oe dv, then you if look bang below your dv you should see either a bigger silicon hose with a metal bung in it or your original hosecut cut down with a bung in it, that is attached to a metal pipe that goes to your induction hose, if it has been cut down goto a breakers and ask them for a pipe that goes from the manifold to the dv and the larger one in u shape that also goes to the dv they will know what your on about!
Would put pics up but at work on a I phone!

Surely this little split here wouldn't cause such a massive boost problem?
I can't tell if it's gone right through or not, would some leccy tape hold it if it was to test it?

Been using a HKS SSQV on my type R for 4 years with no issues. So I dont understand all this advice of putting the standard one back on.
Why do you hear so many scoobies with VTA dump valve then if they are such a problem?
Had my HKS dump valve fitted with stock ECU...no problems
with Apexi Power FC....no problems
now with Simtek and again no problems with having a HKS SSQV fitted.

Bigfarlz as u no iv been having the same problem as you and put it down to the up pipe as shown in the pics before. it is goin to have the up pipe changed on thurs.
however i have solved my jerk problem atm by one or both of 2 things:
1.Started running it on Shell V-Power
2. took hks dump valve apart and stretched the spring bout 5mm longer now seals so much better.
After refitting it and takin it for a drive today the problem seems to have gone.
Just wondering what fuel u are using? and try stretchin that spring lol

Bigfarlz, as has already been said, you need to refit the standard dumpvalve and see what happens. However, a couple of observations:
First of all, if that split in the pipe has gone all the way through, replace it - and ideally with the same hardwalled tubing used by Subaru, not that blue silicone stuff that is visible all over your engine bay.
Secondly, it might be worth your while asking one of the mods to move this thread to Technical.
Pedro: Word from the wise. If stretching that spring helped solve your problem, it means the spring has lost its elasticity/temper and needs to be replaced. You will find that it will quickly star to compress back down again and the problem will start to recur.

Still pleased with my fast fix approach tho.
And will look for an OEM DV ASAP
cheers
