Just to point out the TOTAL cost of the repair of your car includes your hire car, your choice to use a Honda dealership, using a 3rd party to handle the claim etc etc. Not just how much it cost to fix the car itself.
Not quite sure why you are disputing it.
You say you've sold the car - did you buy it back off the insurer?
Did you accept the £7K offer?
I assume you took the £7K, bought the car back off the insurer and then sold it on?
Tell me you haven't just sold the car before getting this sorted out with the insurer?

I lost out cos i lost my car when i shouldnt have. The car was valued without the modifications so when i sold it i sold the mods as part of the price When i bought my car i did not pay extra for the mods as the seller needed a quick sale. I bought the car as an investment as i got a very good deal.
I took £4,700 and sold the car for for just under £4000 but its irrelevant what i made on the car. Yeah, i have made a bit of cash but i didnt want to be buying a new car, i wanted mine.
I am p1ssed off that they wrote my car off as a CAT D when it clearly wasnt.

Just recently my car was written off by another driver. I was told that the car was a write off as the cost of repairs, added to the cost of the hire car and the storage costs made the car a CAT D write off.
My car was hit at under 30mph on the front off side.
When the accident happened i told my insurers i didnt want to take it to one of their approved garages, i wanted to take it to Honda as it was non fault and i thought i should be able to take it where i wanted.
Initially my Insurers got me a hire car for 3 days as i wasnt entitled to a courtesy car (non approved garage) then they gave me details of a company called Drive Assist. They provide you with a car and then claim the costs back from the third party. They gave me a rough looking Ford Focus.
I was told that the car needed £1400 of parts and about the same again in labour costs. They offered me nearly £7000 as a settlement. I was also informed that the cost of my hire car was around £150 a day and that they estimated that i would need it for 2 weeks and the costs of the car, over £1,500!!! made the car uneconomical to repair.
I am gutted as i have only had my Type-r for 6 months and was still in the honeymoon period
Nothing major was damaged, the door and bonnet were fine but new bonnet hinges were needed. Its basically what you can see in the pic.
Surely the costs of repair should be just that. Do all insurers add all the other costs to the repair bill? As it was non fault i assumed that they would get my car back on the road for me, regardless of the other costs...after all, it was one of their drivers that caused this to happen.
I have had to sell the car privately and will have another one this Monday but i have opened up a dispute with the insurers and need some advise from you guys.
The cost of the repairs and labour are less than half of the value of my car. I thought that if the costs were more than half then its written off.
And no, the accident wasn't my fault

If they had said to me we can repair some of the damage rather than replace some parts i would have probably gone for that as the car wouldnt have been written off.
I fixed it in 10 minutes with some tape.
This is how the car traveled to its new home 120 miles away in Birmingham. It had 4 Asians in it and it never got stopped.

Insurance companies seem to be at least as slippery as bankers these days.
Sorry about your car SS, but the replacement one sounds like a hot ship alright. Wonder what your insurance will be on that one!

I'll give your new one a month before you put it backwards into an armco or hedge.
Please post here the reg. no., colour and where you'll mostly be driving it - just so's we can avoid you.

I was always of the understanding that if the accident was not your fault, you could insist that you was put back to the same position as before the accident occurred i.e. you could insist on your car being repaired to it's original condition, iv'e had this happen twice on a motorbike within 3 months of each accident, both other drivers were insured by the same company, it would have been cheaper for them to have bought me a brand new bike, and sent me on holiday whilst i was waiting for delivery.
All of the above was sorted by a company called Helphire and did'nt cost me a penny, included a courtesy bike as well for around 2 months whilst mine was being repaired.

That means they either pay the full cost of repairs including hire cars or other transport. Or they write the vehicle off and pay lots of money.

Compare that with a good independent where labour may well be charged at £40-£50 an hour! £600-£800 would get the job done. You could possibly have got the parts cheaper too. As a dealer will charge you full price + VAT on any parts used in the repair. If you wandered into a parts dept or again, an indie and bought the major items required, bonnet, wing, lights etc, I'd bet you could have attained quite a discount.
Hire car: Lots of "white van" deals in London. Might have been cheaper to hire a car based van for the time (can fit more sh*t in the back).
Having written all that, it seems you might have got a reasonable deal overall. Just a PITA that the costs and insurance company left you with no options. I just hope you haven't "foofed it up".

I suppose it's debatable whether the "cost of repairs" includes ancillaries such as car hire, or means literally, the repairs. However there is definitely no mention of 50% or 60% of the car's value.
Have you read the relevant part of your actual policy?

I don't think you've foofed up because you've made more than the car cost you and certainly more than what the insurance would have settled had they kept the car.
You seem to have a lot of crashes Sarah!
