Ditto previous comments, got off pretty lightly. The fact they hammered the Vectra driver with a much longer ban probably explains it though - they've accepted he was the real instigator, so they had to reflect that in an easier sentence for you and your mate.

Would be very interested to know what kind of legal help you got with this, and how much that cost you.

To Steve, sorry to hear about the loss of your mate 'Luke'. Your right it does bring it home to you when you loose a good friend or family member.

To the OP, you have clearly been very lucky and im pleased you got a good outcome, well at least not banned. However it appears its time to grow up a little and leave the racing and/or heavy right foot for track days etc. I think you have clearly learned your lesson and its time to move on. If you havent heard of Scoobyshootout then I would suggest you look into this and use the event(s) to compete yourself thus leaving any aggressive driving for the track

A SP10 ranges from 3 to 6 points anyway. With 9 points already, a ban via totting up was inevitable.

Fine was lenient, but I guess this reflects it being a barriered dual carriageway with no footpath and weather/traffic conditions at the time.
they said it would either be 6 points or a ban, and because i have 9 already points would give me a long ban and they decided a shorter ban was more appropriate.

I had no legal help, went into court representing myself. i think the police were leniant towards us as we were told at the roadside that the offence we would be charged with would be racing on a public highway (MS50), but when it came to court the charge was reduced to just speeding (SP30)

Well you wont be putting it down for the next 6 weeks mate and then you will have to try and find a insurer who will touch you with a barge poll

Had a fair result though with the ban

An SP30 even in ban form doesnt hammer you that much, just try some with and without the ban quotes. There will be some Insurance companies that wont give you a quote mind, only a handful though.

How long are you still sat on 9 points for? (ie when was your first 3 point conviction).
6 points is the minimum at that speed but they can ban you instead as you found out....sods law would be to get 3 points just after you start driving again and get a 6 months totting up ban! (assuming you are on 9 points in 40-odd days time).
