there are only 2 cats on the hatchback be it a sti or a wrx, downpipe & 2nd cat after the downpipe. The uppipe is decatted on both of these.
We can Put down everything we Think we require to do the rebuild on a request for assistance form which we email off to I.M. It' then down to the powers at be @ I.M if they want to allow us to order a cat to go on said vehicle. To be fair they usually are pretty good and accept most things. But they are clamping down on engine claims. It's getting stupid the amount of things they want proof of or pictures of, and of course they send someone from I.M to take a download from the vehicles ecu so they know exactly what happened at time of failure.

IM probably want to see if the ecu has been mapped by a mapper and is running different software. Do you have the facility to check this at the dealers before you submit the claim to IM? I would assume any messing with the ecu will invalidate your warranty immediately?

Gutted for you Dr Jim. Hope you get sorted.
Could anyone with engine failure please make sure you add to this thread
https://www.scoobynet.com/scoobynet-...-failures.html
The thread will help anyone who has the problem prove that there are other cases which in turn should make a warranty claim more straight forward.

if the check engine light comes on it records all the data at that time it came on, so someone might say they were only doing 30mph when in fact it's nearer 130mph but the ecu will tell the truth.
there is also a cid no. that we can read which should in effect be the same for a particular my of car and version but if the ecu is altered it changes this cid no. so when japan ask for it and it's not what it should be then bye bye warranty.

The cid code changes on the ecu as soon as its tinkered with, any ppp cars have the ecu sent away to be re-programmed and are logged with I.M that they have been altered.
its very clever at recording things in its permenant memory which is only accesed by the dealer with the SSM III. the temporary memory can be erased by any individual with an obd reader.
heres an example from a diesel Particle filter that has recorded a failure.

The first two years of the warranty will be underwritten by I.M the third year with any warranty is underwritten by a third party warranty group. (I know this because my misses works for the firm who underwrites for most of the major dealer networks). I am not sure what it has to do with Subaru Japan as i was under the impression I.M spec there cars and underwrite any warranty claims in the first two years.

This could be why (if/when it turns up ) the cosworth has such a crap warranty!

Well car is back from dealers, they read the Ecu for fault codes (none found), visual inspection on the engine (no problem found), no compression or leak down done.
What a complete waste of my time, just told to monitor oil usage, suppose I just wait till it goes bang!

They say no fault so drive it like you stole it

The car might not pop untill after March 2011 which by then the warranty will have expired. Maybe that's what they want you should go back and demand a compression and leakdown test.

Only had mines since April but It is p##sing me off with the feeling that it could go pop any time. Tempted to trade back in against an RB320 that the dealer currently has.
Should have bought a hawkeye when i went to look at them

Mines does this hesitation at around 2-3k, always seems to do it after the fuel has been in the tank about a week though. seems fine after a few miles with new V power in the tank.
