No, it just makes you deaf

Catflap, agree entirely - not all young drivers are boy racers, not all boy racers are young! And yes all are immature, especially the type I described

Saxo driver,
No mate, not deaf ......yet !!!! 150dB ouch !!

My gripe's have been about the minority, and thanks for keeping ya stereo down in residential areas, I love cars, I love the thrill of driving and there is no reason it cant be a social ting the local lads often come and chat to me as i have a "nice car" and once again no issues with that.

Tw*ats driving around with stereo's full tilt, full beam on complete with foggies get on my tit's and are danager's to rest of us these are our boy racer culprits, and just beacuase you have the big Zorst or loud stereo that does not make you a boy racer, driving like a **** about town irrgardless time and traffic, and kicking drum and bass through my bedroom at 2pm in the morning does !!!

Baseball caps seem compulsary but who know's !!!

I tend to just lable guys who drive nova's with alloys on "boy racers". I think we just stereotype people too much these days (me included). If you were 17 with hardly any cash a 1.2 Nova is a great car (did i really say that!!!). Its the same for different badges of car too! Too many stereotypes

Yeh well said Phill

I love loud music, (love to rock and roll to the sultans of ping- prize for anyone who knows what that meant )

When people are trying to sleep, and have kids, that go to bed at early time, this is again just illustrating their lack of understanding, and consideration for others. If you want loud music CLOSE THE FRIGGIN WINDOW, we don’t want to here you THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP

On open roads, I have my music blasting and I LOVE IT, get back into town, I turn down, and it aint being lame, its just good manors.

SaxoDriver, you may be into music but 140/150 decibels is enough to end your love of any kind of sound wave !

A decent head unit and some quality speaks, I find is enough to reproduce music to a decent qualilty in a car. I suspect nobody needs 8 * 15 inch subs, its more a mines bigger than yours thing, I have seen an Escort van with reinforced (Security van style) windows due to the sound pressure level, mental.

Fair enough if you dont drive round with it turned up, but those who do are the lowest of the low, I dont think it is anything to do with music, its about "look at me" cos they are so inadequate and wear Baseball caps.

I've come to the conclusion that I can't be a boy racer because:

a) My car doesn't have silly bits.
b) I only use my fog lights in the fog or at night in the highlands (deer spotting).
c) I don't hang around McDonalds in it, other to eat and leave.
d) I don't race or rev her inappropriately.
e) I'm intelligent (degree) - apparently that matters?
f) Despite the login name I'm not a boy anymore.
g) I don't have or wear a baseball cap.

I think the responses are interesting though. It seems that whilst a lot of people maybe sterotyped a boy-racer we all seem to regard the true boy-racers as the ones (of any age) that do silly things to and in their cars at inappropriate times and places. There is nothing wrong with going fast or even a race with another car in the 'right' circumstances and provided it isn't taken too far. That's my take on it anyway.

One thing though is I've noticed the Saxo seems to be regarded as the No.1 boy-racer car and the most popular. Is this an England thing cause in Edinburgh and everywhere I've seen in Scotland the VTS/R is always outnumbered by XR (whatevers) and the No.1 is easily the Nova boys.

you know you're NOT a boyracer when you find Nova's and suchlike with filler all over them and HUGE wings on making a loud noise which just sounds crap.

When you can look at these and automatically think "hah, why bother" - you know you're safe ;-)

I get the distinct impression that some of the people here were never "accepted" at school. The kid at the back with the spots, the glasses and 12 GCSEs.

Yeah thats great mate, Im glad you've got a better career than me, Im glad you can be so snobby, and look down your nose at people with less disposible income than you!

But at least most "boy racers" are enjoying life, meeting people and living a little (in their own way) so who are we to judge them?

Haha Richard (Living fast. Probably dieing young!)

Can't speak for everyone, but I know for a fact I was no swot in school, nor was I a rebel, I was like the majority of kids in school just having a laff. Left school with no GCSE`s to my name due to simply hating school.

As for snobery goes, DAM RIGHT, and proud of it, I've crawled my *** out of the Welsh valley's, where most of my mates are inside or on crack, again reffering to responsibilty for your actions, it swings both ways, when you've worked hard and done well you should feel good for yourself, if you don't then who cares, coz i do, and I'm gonna keep feeling good about myself I hold few people's opinions high enough not to.

Dubious attitude mocking the swotty kid at the back of the class, hmm... they are different so mock them? yeh right, those same swotty kids had their own battles to fight (extreme mental pressure and torture from peers and parents perhaps? Who knows those swotty kids probably pay your salary now!)

Few of us have it easy regardless of our impresions of them, we all have battles to fight, demons within ourself.

Please don't mock simply because you don't understand, if you feel looked down upon? It's a fair bet it's your own low self esteem to blame.

I never look down on anyone, I'm simply proud of myself(for my own reasons you'll never understand, nor I guess yould you ever want to.

Quote "As for snobery goes, DAM RIGHT, and proud of it..."End quote
Quote "I never look down on anyone..."End Quote

Er yes!

But my whole point was leading towards Live and Let Live so your best quote after having a go was:

Quote "lifes too short"End Quote

Precisely.

im not a boy racer, the only reason i wear a cap is because im too lazy to do my hair.

i drive carefuly and sensibly because im saving for a my98-99 turbo and i dont want my insurance to hit the roof.

When the quote is taken in the context it was written (read remainder of paragraph,) one would see that the pride comes form ones own self effort and concreting of adversity, not, the one upmanship over others, this i don't agree with.

There will always be people less fortunate than ourselves, and worse off ( i know at stages in my life ive not had 2p to rub together, and I am sure ill see times like that again), but i will be proud of my success, as should we all be proud of our own achievements, no matter how small.

Perhaps it`s snobbery over ones self, not others, "IM BETTER THAN I USED TO BE" as opposed to "IM BETTER THAN YOU"

I think this for as snobbery is to be encouraged it shows improvement and also that you acknowledge your improvements in life, regardless of how small.

"It matters not how fare you are, simply how far you have come" something I tell may of my martial art students, it meaning is not that profound, simply don’t worry about others achievements, some will do better, some worse, be proud of your achievements and learn form your mistakes.

wow, this is starting to get deep and meaningful!!

and yes, 150dBs is enough to, quite literally, blow your mind - but believe me, I won't be playing it that loud all the time!!

And definately not in built up areas at 2 in the morning - that's too late for me!

It was a bit of the same for me boys..

At school, teachers thought I was a No-hoper, didnt really have the time of day for me...However...I have extreme pleasure in going past the old school in my P1, seeing my same old teachers in their crappy cars doing the same old boring s**t and having the knowledge that I proved them all wrong...

I feel great about myself!!

Has anyone else noticed that Subaru Impreza Tubos of all makes and models have slowly but surely become boy racers cars!!

Yes would it surprise you to see someone you might happen to view as a boy racer driving an Impreza Turbo?? not me because I see them every day.

Impreza Turbos have become (whether you like to admit it or have noticed it yet or not) Boy Racer cars.

They have had their day but admit it, that day has gone. Like Ford Cosworths in the 80's and early 90's.

IT IS TIME TO MOVE ON AND GET A MORE UNIQUE NOT SO COMMON CAR

unfortunately osma your right mate, i know of 5 boy racers with k and l reg wrx`s racing around the stoke on trent area like they have a death wish, all with baseball caps, low iq and 14 year old girls with blond perms and alco pops, shame.

Cant afford anything else right now, was looking to sell up and go for a super 7 still thinking about it

On one incident I was driving through a residential area (doing 25 ish) and WHAMMMMM these 2 N*B HEADS in a white wrx type ra that live around me whizzed passed me at 80-100 my car actually shook as the over took, this was not even a main road, there were kids playing no more than 5 feet away form me.

Caught up with them in a car park, and before I could even tell tem what I thought of them these to idiots were laughing at me shouting them uk scoobys are sh*te, simply form listening to the dude I could tell he had the intelligence of a pee, as he could hardly pronounce anything. Scabby thick toe rag, wonder how many packs of smack he sold for that car?

Lucky as my bouncer mate in my car almost took his skinny 17 year old head off, until I reminded him he`d loose his job if he got into trouble LOL

Don't worry about the scooby boy racers! It's all very well putting **** like that in a Nova that takes 25 seconds to get to 100mph but stick them in something that takes about 12 seconds and its just a matter of time till they kill themselves. Just pray they don't take anyone else out while they are at it!!

Fools!!

At the end of the day you still have to pay respect to value! You can't hammer around in a beat up £6K wrx and think you've got a nicer motor than a brand new Boxter S or M3 just cause you can race with them and keep up.

catflap, take it you mean Caterham, get one you`ll never regret it, i only pay about 300quid insurance on a standard 170bhp westybusa and have never smiled so much, when you accelerate in the dry your spine leaves your back and bounces down the road behind you!!

i wear a hat while driving, a brown wooly hat. i enjoy waving at tools with caps and bass boxes etc in saxos, gti's etc as i whizz past on a quiet twisty A road. Must admit in the dry i've wasted a fair few cozzies and subarus as well (wets a different matter).

ps Trackdays are something else in a quick opentop sportscar.
