Well i have nothing but praise for Gary, he has looked after my insurance for about 3 years now and my faith in him is such that i don't bother looking anywhere else as i trust him to get me the best deal out there, Its Keith Michaels that are letting Gary down, he is bringing a hell off a lot of customers to Keith Michaels and its obvious they need more staff on the telephone quotes side of the things to cope with the demand, if Gary started his own insurance brokers (which i think he should) they would loose a lot of customers, because i and I'm sure many other customers would transfer to his brokers if he opened one.

I made a claim which did not involve another vehicle (well fence post).
Sorted it out no problem and did not effect my NCB or next quote - so can't really say fairer than that

Seems to be the pattern .. if you can get insured with them then you're in safe hands ..

I guess that out ranks everything else

I have nothing but praise for Gary, when I first needed to take out a policy with a specialist insurer I contacted A Plan and Keith Michaels.

To be honest A Plan were actually £9 cheaper than Keith Michaels but I was impressed but Gary's approach and manner so I took the policy out with him.

When my next renewal came I contacted A Plan again but they could not get within £100 of Gary's renewal quote.

I like the personal approach and nothing is too much trouble such as policy changes.

Keep up the good work Gary.

Cool

I have used Gary 5 times in 8 years , ring up and get through straight away
Knows his stuff checks any changes I've made to the car price I pay deal is done and I post positive feedback on scoobynet And the other forums I post on
Yes I know there is a north / south divide with acents etc but Gary is top man ( and I train salespeople for a living )and he is a good 'bloke to deal with'
Yes he is a busy man which shows how good he is

I rang Gary once recently, got put straight through after phoning the main line number. He was as helpful as he could be, granted the quote I received of Admiral was way below what he thought he could get, but absolutely no complaints or anything from my end. Guess I was just lucky to get straight through.

As the OP I feel I should try and clarify why I started the thread. It wasn't due to Gary being rude, or not contactable. Rather, it was a general displeasure at the way I was treated by the representative of the company I spoke with.

Feel like I've caused a situation that could leave poor Gary reaching for the metaphorical tin hit lol!

what i dont understand is,theres obviously some insider knowledge gary knows/has some knowldge over most the insurance companies and threatens to squeal if they dont give him a good quote ,so why not pass this onto the other guys in the office and split the commision ? everyone wins

It's just having an abilty to select the right risk and price to keep both the customer and the insurance company happy.

Looking at our claim stats (and without wanting to blow my own trumpet) we're obviously doing something right, as we are managing to give very competitive prices, whilst also making sure the insurers are happy aswell. It's a balancing act really.

Like i have said before, we're not always going to be the cheapest for everyone, but if you're a good risk there is a very good chance we'll be able to help.

Everyone in our office has access to the same schemes as i do, but we all specialise in our own things.
I am good on performance cars, but someone else in our office is better on commercial vehicles, and someone better else on household/taxis/bikes etc....

We like to stick to our own 'niche', meaning we can know the schemes we use inside-out, and make sure we get the best deal for both the customer and the insurer.

I actually don't look forward to calling Keith Michaels insurance.
The fella that usually answers the phone is a real arrogant txxt and never helpful. I pulled him up about it once and he was just arguementative.
Gary on the other hand seems a decent fella but seems to have too much work on and little time to discuss things.
I only go to them in hope they are the cheapest...............the customer service is awful.

I had a similar experience a few months ago. I left my name and number with someone else to pass on to him and then after not hearing from him I left a message and my number again on Gary's answer machine, I never got a call back. First impressions are all it for me when it comes to insurance, if it feels like they can't be bothered to return a call to take my money, then I worry what it would be like trying to make a claim. I ended up renewing with A-Plan, I like how they answer their phones straight away

He does seem like a decent guy on here though.

Is PM'ing on a public forum the usual way for people to get a quote?? I wouldn't dream of it (is that just me??)
Just to clarify this,

Strangely enough the other forum members actually suggested i sent Moley a pm to obtain a quote, so right or wrong, i tried to contact him that way.
By the way, i was in no way having a 'go' at the guy, i don't personally know him, have never met him, and until reading this thread had never heard a moan about him. I am unfortunately just 1 of the, it would seem many people who will never get to recieve a quote from him. That is just tough luck on me, as the Guy says he can only do so many quotes, and quite rightly it would seem his first priority is to his existing customer base. Lets hope that i can get a quote next time.

If you deal with Moley and a couple of others there then you get courteous and helpful service however i have spoken to a couple there that where officious and impolite in their approach, odd being i was spending money with them.

The customer is not always King, even so they should be made to feel like they are - IMHO that is.

The prices are good and i have no problem recommending them on that basis, the CS could do with a little work

Ok, fair comment. So, can you answer this? My renewal premium is up 60% on last year, despite being old(ish), having 20 years no claims, living in an A rated area (according to the list in the insurance section) and having the same car for 5 years. Is this typical?

Not having a go mate, just seems a shame that loads of people here know how good you are at looking after them, but many just cant seem to get hold of you
Or maybe PM people back asking for full details and renewal quotes. Then you can pick and choose the ones worth following up?

If you are on commision, you could make a fortune from this site alone.

Are you insured with Keith Michaels?

The only renewals i've sent out with such an increase is where people have made a claim during that year.

I've been insured with KM through Gary for a few years now, I've only spoken to him once though. This is due to KM's opening hours and the hours I work.

Easily sorted by PM come renewal time though.

Gary's always helpful and does IMO go the extra mile to help myself and all his customers to get the best deal.

Wouldn't use anywhere else.

When it's come's to renewal time, I might have to go elsewhere though. Not impressed that Gary hasn't wished me happy birthday today.

No, I'm not. I'm with A-Plan and the price has been pretty much the same for 4 years until now.

I've not claimed, but the wife did on her policy (she is a named driver on mine), but wouldn't have expected this much of an increase. If it is due to that then I wish we'd not claimed as it was only a cracked bumper and grill.

I could take her off the policy, but she still seems to lower my premium, judging by the online quote sites.

I moved from A Plan to KM this year and my premium dropped from £450 to £350 (95 WRX). I did have to ring a few times before I got through to speak to Moley though and the guy who answered the phone initially did seem to be getting a bit tetchy, particularly as I kept politely refusing his offer that he could do my quote just as good as Moley could.
Thing is, everybody says you must speak with Moley to get the best quote.
Id say keep trying, it was definitely worth it for me.

Not sure why it would have gone up so much, might be worth ringing them for an explanation.

Insurance prices have gone up, but a 60% increase would certainly seem a bit much!

I got straight through (to Gary) and answered all the questions (which you expect to be asked when insuring a car) and got an acceptable quote - job done.
Thanks

No offence but does the big boss of Keith Michaels think that way? That is not a way to run a business.

In all honesty Gary something needs to be done within Keith Micheals to help you (surely you are not the only one who can do decent quotes?), when you are helped it will help getting new business as more people will get competative quotes.
For what its worth I was with you many years back, when I sold the scoob and rang to renew you were honest and said you werent that competetive on mainstream type of cars, so I went elsewhere. I admired the honesty so when I got my evo last July I tried to get a quote, unfortunately I left messages for you and pm on here but no response (I may not have been an exisiting customer but I was a customer who came back - well tried to), went with A plan in the end as they contacted me from here and did the best quote I had (none from Keith Michaels)

This year at renewal, I thought I would try again as my renewal went up despite extra no claims etc. Again messages left, and I sent 2 pms on here but nothing heard back. Will I try next year, no

This year I went with Norwell Richards, cheaper than last years offers more things etc

jaytc2003 - i have lots of faith in our claims department, i just like to be kept up to date with goings on.

I agree that more could be done ref new quotes/getting through, and apparently we are looking to take on more staff, so hopefully that should help with the workload.

I'll have to disagree with you regarding your first point, existing customers should always get first priority IMO (which i know some may disagree with)
