Sorry to hear and see the problem this morning Lee, it would be a real shame to break the car after all your hard work and time put into it. ![Frown](images/smilies/frown.gif)
I know where you are coming from though, just be 100% sure before you start whichever route you go along.![Thumb](images/smilies/thumb.gif)
Some nice pics above, I'm sure I've seen at least three of the pics before...

gutted for you Lee ![Frown](images/smilies/frown.gif)
if your 100% your stripping
why dont you strip the engine parts and sell them to buy a std engine and ecu then sell (or keep) the car running with just a std engine???
i got an engine & ecu here out of a forester i cant use so need to sell to fund my engine re-build
just an option to help us both out of a hole

Jesus mate. I just looked at the spec of your car in your SN garage. If you do break her you have some very desirable parts so I'm sure you'll get a lot back from her. I've just faced coulple of big bils on my car over last two months and it's left me completely broke. It does make you feel like throwing in the towel.
I seem to read more and more about mechanical failures on these cars on this forum and it does make you think.
Perhaps let the dust settle for a week or two before making any big decisions.
Andrew

Sorry to hear this mate, Theres a few of us that know the feeling when the bottom end is scrap.
It would be a shame to break, but you were only saying the other day you were thinking of selling as you don't use it much. You'll get more breaking than you would in a complete running car anyways, So break it, make some money back and move onto something new

If you broke it for parts, would you buy another scooby? If yes, then keep it. The car is very clean, it'll be a shame to get rid of it because of an engine failure.

Gutted for you mate
As said above though, dont strip and sell the whole car as it's way too nice for that. Just source a standard STI engine and run that. Should be able to get one for the bits you can sell off your engine
Im sure you'll make the right decision. Chin up fella

thanks for the kind words guys
i have been down the garage for five to get some of the v power out of it and use in my other car and thought i would have a little nose at the engine
right here it goes lol after we heard the noise which sounds like a knock in the car park i drove it home and on the mountain the fan belt came off and i managed to get it back on but never looked right when i put it back as it was sitting funny on the idler
so managed to creep home and get it in the garage
now when i looked at it tonight i felt the crank pulley and it was very loose so think the noise could have been the pulley as i unscrewed the crank pulley nut with my hand![EEK!](images/smilies/eek.gif)
so it might not be the bottom end after all and just that the crank pulley nut had worked it self loose that was causing the tapping noise and for my belt to come off
so will pick up new belt tomorrow after work and fit it and make sure crank pulleys nice and tight then start it up and let it run till warm and vary revs through out if its gone i will be a very happy guy but we will see
will keep you posted guys
