im just hoping that it is all down to the pulley and bolt thing is the rcm pulleys don't have the holes in them like the standard one dose and th only way to do it up tight is to lock up the clutch flywheel and leave in gear
if anyone else knows anyother ways i will try them to

Lee check the crankshaft woodgruff key that the pully locates on,
the silver one i bought off the guy from swansea on here with the ****ed engine turned out to just be the woodgruff key had worked loose and come out,
after me and my bro put a new one in and welded up the pulley (couldnt get a new one that day) and so far (4months) its held and we got a tax and tested wrx for £500

Lee don't use a loctight that is too strong for gods sake. You will never get it undone again. Use a weak one or try your best to tighten it up to the required setting.
Made that mistake before cost me and arm and a leg. Well nail and finger actually, but you know what I ment.

Just read through this now
really really hope you get it sorted it'd be a real shame to pull it all apart after spending some much time n effort making it what it is now.
Good luck

right guys been down the garage tonight and got the pulley bolt tight then replaced the old belt with a new one and then started up and all sounds fine, let it run up to temp and varied the rpm and sounded OK , so will take it for a blast in a day or so and re check and listen for noise but all sounds good so far and I'm very happy bunny at the moment

well done fella that was a twitcher. but from your build on engine thought it was built too strong just to go pop. as for the phormula knock detection fitted one and think is the best out there for the money imho and a essential bit of kit to keep an eye on that engine destroying detonation.

thanks for the kind words guys i have been down the garage for five to get some of the v power out of it and use in my other car and thought i would have a little nose at the engine
right here it goes lol after we heard the noise which sounds like a knock in the car park i drove it home and on the mountain the fan belt came off and i managed to get it back on but never looked right when i put it back as it was sitting funny on the idler so managed to creep home and get it in the garage
now when i looked at it tonight i felt the crank pulley and it was very loose so think the noise could have been the pulley as i unscrewed the crank pulley nut with my hand
so it might not be the bottom end after all and just that the crank pulley nut had worked it self loose that was causing the tapping noise and for my belt to come off
so will pick up new belt tomorrow after work and fit it and make sure crank pulleys nice and tight then start it up and let it run till warm and vary revs through out if its gone i will be a very happy guy but we will see
will keep you posted guys
