[quote=Camoscooby;9563998]Nevermind the bullets and bombs........look at what our boys have to deal with in Iraq/Afghanistan...........![EEK!](images/smilies/eek.gif)
Apparently they are 'camel' spiders
maybe because they eat camels![Lol1](images/smilies/lol1.gif)

A mate is utterly, utterly terrified of spiders and when he was welding up another part of his old landy, one crawled across the hand that was bracing the metal. In his panic he turned the welding torch on it.
Apparently it exploded and he still has the scar on the back of his hand....

We got one of those plug electronic jobs and it seems to have done the trick with the spiders.

I can't even look at pictures of them. And now it's the time of year when they string their bleedin' webs right across the garden, in just the right position to catch you across the face.

I try to be brave, but end up doing that squeaky girly squealing. You know the one.........'eek.......eek......eek......' whilst brushing frantically at real and imagined web/spider/hair.

i had loads of those buggers come in last year, had one a night for a few weeks and always in the bedroom. had to get rid of them with a cd box, cardboard and a slipper!.
chucked them out and the buggers would automatically try and run back in!

Camel spiders are savage! Was in Oman in 2001 and they were everywhere! They make a squealing sound when they run! A few of the lads went hunting them and had to smack it with a shovel 3 times before they killed it! Caught a few for 'King of the Ring' with scorpions, ah the good old days!!
My mate caught one in a box when he was on stag and brought it into our tent in the morning, kicked the box over the little barsteward stood with it's front legs in the air and legged it! So did a few of the lads too

I had the mother (******) of all spiders sprint across the living room floor the other night and despite trying to find it, I couldn't...
BUT, My rats did, And ate every last bit of it. Problem solved, Unless you have a phobia of rats

I had a run in with not one but two off the ******* pictured in the first post this morning, one came crawling out of the sink as i was getting a glass of water... to say i shat myself would be an understatement!! after "dealing" with him i was confronted by another just as i was leaving for work. Not a good way to start the day!

The scale on the US marines picture must be a camera-angle trick, if you believe wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solifugae
Solifugae are the subject of many urban legends and exaggerations about their size, speed, behaviour, appetite, and lethality. They are not especially large, the biggest having a leg span of perhaps 12 centimetres (4.7 in).[3] They are fast on land compared to other invertebrates, the fastest can run perhaps 16 km/h (10 mph), nearly half as fast as the fastest human sprinter. Members of this order of Arachnida apparently have no venom, with the possible exception of one species in India (see below) and do not spin webs.
In the Middle East, it is widely rumored among American and coalition military forces stationed there that Solifugae will feed on living human flesh. The story goes that the creature will inject some anaesthetising venom into the exposed skin of its sleeping victim, then feed voraciously, leaving the victim to awaken with a gaping wound. Solifugae, however, do not produce such an anaesthetic, and they do not attack prey larger than themselves unless threatened. Other stories include tales of them leaping into the air, disemboweling camels, screaming, and running alongside moving humvees; all of these tales are false.
