I'm not sure of how strong a rottweiler is but I can remember when I was young walking my boxer dog and if he decided to do a bolter, he could rip your arm off! I always considered rottweilers to be much stronger (no real fact to base it on). I miss my boxer dogs, lovely pets whilst being completely stupid.

Allowing for muscle attachments/physiology most animals are a bit stronger than humans as we are more evolved for dexterity and presicion rather than power-a rottie(adult) would be about just under 1 and a half times as strong as a person of the same (lean) weight-a full grown female chimp on the other hand is strong enough to tear the arms off a full grown adult human bloke

By the way the chimp arm thing was an extreme example of the sheer power/weight ratio some animals have compared to peoplejfi- I've stroked a killer whale but I wouldnt think it an acceptable pet tho

I do understand peoples fears and my dogs have suprised many people locally who previously were happy to stereotype them all as killers.
I only returned the insults after you called me an idiot as from experience those that start with the insults are either unwilling or unable to be educated

Depends on who's testing methods you use
Always never been perfect at written english myself even though I can spot others mistakes and can speak well too-always been a bit of a mystery and an annoyace that one

It's clear from posts like that from our Alda driving friend that there is a real lack of understanding of certain breeds, instead they appear to base their views on sensationalist tabloid reporting. Indeed the first example in Hunt's opening post wasn't even an attack in any shape or form.
Still, let them rant all they want. The legislators at least and for once appear to be seeing sense this time around.
If anyone wants to enter into a sensible discussion about the breed then feel free to start a new thread or pm me

Alternative to what? Rotties are killers, have killed and will continue to kill.... ergo ban them, simple as. Or as you insist lets keep them as it's only a handful of children that are maimed and killed each year - so that's acceptable to you so that you can carry on enjoying the fact that you have such a gentle giant of a dog.
Trouble is that the "lack of understanding" is driven by the owners, the age old argument of "what do you know... what experience do you have..." look, just because you may boil a bag of tripe/fill a bowl full of food and pick up dog **** that doesn't make you an expert on the entire breed.
You mean a discussion where people agree with you 
or if they don't they'll quickly let you railroad them into agreeing

I personally think leaving a child with any dog is a risk. It's not specific to a cerain type of dog. If we assume the majority of dogs are brought up well and not trained to attack, then you'd hope it wouldn't happen but I think generally most responsible owners wouldn't take the chance of it 'turning'. Any dog has that potential and assuming smaller dogs don't do it is a much more dangerous attitude.
We had a lab and I know we looked after him well, but he had a screw loose I think. He used to be funny when he was eating if we were nearby (but we thought we'd got that sorted with the help of a dog psycologist), until one day he bit me, just when I was in the sitting room (no food involved). Ok, nothing serious but he showed aggression and continued to do so, in the end we had to get rid of him.
The fact is, alot comes down to how a dog is raised but they are animals and there is always a risk, even with a 'nice' dog. Don't be blinded by the media, and don't be so ignorant to think the only risks come from the demonised dogs. (that comment isn't really aimed at you Les)

I don't think it is necessary to ban dogs but that owners are responsible for them at all times and their safe behaviour or control. Any transgression should be heavily penalised.
