Allowing for muscle attachments/physiology most animals are a bit stronger than humans as we are more evolved for dexterity and presicion rather than power-a rottie(adult) would be about just under 1 and a half times as strong as a person of the same (lean) weight-a full grown female chimp on the other hand is strong enough to tear the arms off a full grown adult human bloke

This is an interesting response, actually

Are you suggesting that as I don't take exception to the breed you like then that is ok?

I tell you what, try defending Staffordshire Bull Terriers... and be sure to get your chum DevilDog along. Then we can have some fun

Sorry dear missed your post-obvious example on this thread was your insistance that one of the animals convinced me to film when I said nothing of the kind-Either inability to concentrate enough to read a whole posts or scan reading-both of which are literary deficiencys-also resorting to direct insults another sgn of those that have difficulties in discussing factually and concisely

OK, let's look at your response, specifically:

1. Your inappropriate use of the hyphen.
2. Your inappropriate use of the plural, specifically 'deficiency'
3. Your spelling errors.

Try harder, much harder

As I've been up since silly O'clock I'll excuse myself the poor grammar use especially as I'm doing something interesting whilst responding to your attempted baiting so I can only allow you around 5 pecent of my available brain power By the way the chimp arm thing was an extreme example of the sheer power/weight ratio some animals have compared to people
jfi- I've stroked a killer whale but I wouldnt think it an acceptable pet tho

You need to understand why certain people fear these animals.

You need to understand why some may deem them inappropriate, especially given the environment in which they may exist.

Calling these people thick / deluded / a **** etc. does not help, not at all.

You should educate, not vilify, as this makes you no better than those you deem 'ignorant'.

You should champion the breed, and empathise

Do you understand?

Errr you do realise that its a lakeland/jrt cross in the pic dont you?
I do understand peoples fears and my dogs have suprised many people locally who previously were happy to stereotype them all as killers.
I only returned the insults after you called me an idiot as from experience those that start with the insults are either unwilling or unable to be educated

Then perhaps you should think twice before accusing somebody of being thick... do you see?

Consider this a lesson, a free lesson

Is this what it has come down to? A whole breed's existence depending on a few spelling mistakes?

Evening. Or should I say, more correctly, morning.

Unfortunately messrs Hunt and Wonderful have evidenced that they have no desire to even be prepared to consider an alternative view, let alone be educated as to what are the facts of the matter.

It's clear from posts like that from our Alda driving friend that there is a real lack of understanding of certain breeds, instead they appear to base their views on sensationalist tabloid reporting. Indeed the first example in Hunt's opening post wasn't even an attack in any shape or form.

Still, let them rant all they want. The legislators at least and for once appear to be seeing sense this time around.

If anyone wants to enter into a sensible discussion about the breed then feel free to start a new thread or pm me

I fear, however, that, such an offer will be in vain as certain people appear to be unwilling to look at the bigger picture.

Alternative to what? Rotties are killers, have killed and will continue to kill.... ergo ban them, simple as. Or as you insist lets keep them as it's only a handful of children that are maimed and killed each year - so that's acceptable to you so that you can carry on enjoying the fact that you have such a gentle giant of a dog.

It's clear from posts like that from our Alda driving friend that there is a real lack of understanding of certain breeds
Trouble is that the "lack of understanding" is driven by the owners, the age old argument of "what do you know... what experience do you have..." look, just because you may boil a bag of tripe/fill a bowl full of food and pick up dog **** that doesn't make you an expert on the entire breed.

If anyone wants to enter into a sensible discussion about the breed then feel free to start a new thread or pm me
You mean a discussion where people agree with you or if they don't they'll quickly let you railroad them into agreeing

I fear, however, that, such an offer will be in vain as certain people appear to be unwilling to look at the bigger picture.

Any dog has that potential and assuming smaller dogs don't do it is a much more dangerous attitude.

We had a lab and I know we looked after him well, but he had a screw loose I think. He used to be funny when he was eating if we were nearby (but we thought we'd got that sorted with the help of a dog psycologist), until one day he bit me, just when I was in the sitting room (no food involved). Ok, nothing serious but he showed aggression and continued to do so, in the end we had to get rid of him.

The fact is, alot comes down to how a dog is raised but they are animals and there is always a risk, even with a 'nice' dog. Don't be blinded by the media, and don't be so ignorant to think the only risks come from the demonised dogs. (that comment isn't really aimed at you Les)
I agree with you anyway Lisa. I probably did not put it like that in an earlier post.

I don't think it is necessary to ban dogs but that owners are responsible for them at all times and their safe behaviour or control. Any transgression should be heavily penalised.

Les
