I was expecting iOS on the Apple TV so a little disappointed. On the other hand the new one is so small I can travel with it, for $99 I might give it a go.
Marcus, I'm pretty sure I heard that all devices would get 4.2, but could be wrong, it would be the sensible move.
The iPod Touch is now a seriously nice piece of kit, HD video recording, huge storage and that screen for that money! Could shake up the action camera market with a good mount. Go-Pro's cost more and do a lot less. Did it get GPS as well?

You know you mention the apple TV being great for travelling because of its size. Does that mean, lets say you were in a hotel with an HDMI enable TV or a friends house. Could you hook up your ATV and with your account enabled, stream videos, movies etc ??
If so that is a pretty good portable travellers bit of kit

Curious to know capacity it actually is and wether it's possible to hack and add, for example, XBMC on it.
Renting movies does not appeal to me. If I want a movie then I'll typically want it permanently. Again, a hack could allow you to grab the stream and store it somewhere.

Its designed as a device to stream content (youtube, flickr, your itunes and movie/tv rental)

iPhone/iPad streaming content to the Apple TV was my thinking. I can then stop carrying a pair of speakers as well.

Depending on how generous this space allocation is, it may be possible to utilize some of it to add in additional apps, for example, XBMC, NitoTV, etc...
One could ask why you'd want those, well, perhaps they'll support media formats that the ATV does not, or provide functionality that the ATV doesn't.
