Interesting, I thought this sort of view would go against your extreme-left roots? Surely you want your favourite immigrants to feel at home, and get Sharia law implemented and generally have the rules of their religion go above everything else, including the laws of the land?! (exactly as they want/demand)
Agree with your actual point tho - relgion should have no influence on the laws and rules this country abides by. Things should be based on fact and reason, not myth and tradition.

Seems to me the Catholic church have Hobson's choice. Their membership is decreasing, particularly in more hedonistic countries such as ours where shoreing up their membership apparently involves embracing changes that are contrary to what they've been preaching for God knows how long (he really does you know). Would it not be somewhat hypocritical to promote/accept the use of condoms now, they aren't a political party changing policy depending on which way the wind is going are they?
And suggesting all Catholics (or at any rate all priests) are kiddie-fiddlers is frankly ridiculous. The vast majority of Catholics (including priests) are as likely as appalled by that as most everyone else; the spotlight is on them and they just haven't dealt with it very well.
I don't happen to be religious in any way so don't worry too much about it, but I dare say your average Catholic (or indeed religious person) is more 'decent' in the way they behave than the rest.
