I like the hatch and saloon , would it be so wrong for Subaru to go more mainstream, but continue to make niche products like the STi, Spec C, R205 and the wide bodied WRX should it be produced for this country?

After all nobody can rely on niche products, they are in general subsidised by the mainstream products.

According to Subaru in Cardiff they're not offering the high level rear wing here because they're aiming at the BMW market!! They will be offering a lip spoiler as an option though! I asked about the 2.5 problems and they said there wasnt one Ummm ok!!

So I guess it's another reason to go for a JDM version and get one with a "proper" STi spoiler.

As I said before, it's all getting a bit desperate now. They cannot compete with BMW and if the dealer seriously said there is no problem with the 2.5 engine then they must think we are dumber than a dumb thing.

My bet is Subaru won't be in the UK in 3 years time!! Good riddance IMO!

Whilst at Slip End at the weekend, was told that the rear wing on a 2011 sti requires the boot lid to be strengthened, not sure how true that is but it seems a little bit far fetched based on pics on this thread!

I think the saloon looks good both ways, however the non-spoiler version should go some way to reduce the chav appeal and it's a step toward an 'exec' looking car. Granted still many more such steps required till it gets there.

Just have to hold off till they plonk in the new engine design next year and not let ECUTek anywhere near it...

Merv should of asked them about my two engine failures, bmw market think they should stay off the drugs.Just because you are charging bmw money does not mean you are getting the quality or build of one.

I don't think Subaru care to much about the UK market as they sell very well in other markets.I believe the Forester is the best selling SUV in Australia and sells strongly in the USA and obviously Subaru do well in their domestic market. In fact Subaru are of a very few car manufacturers that make profit.
If peeps want a huge spoiler on the back they can get one after market,so i cant see it being a problem.I just think the big spoiler days have gone, looks to toy town.

I agree, UK sales have plummited since the highs of 2004/05. The US buys more Subaru cars in a month than the UK does in a Year

I saw the New STi at Abber and I think I prefer it without the high spoiler I will more likely get one next April

wel i saw this today at a dealer, it looks fantastic from the front, but for me its missing something, without the spoiler, and i kinda felt that was the point, seems subaru want to target a different market in this country, though i think with the tired reaction from the dealer when i said it needs a spoiler, if subaru care anything about feedback they will start offering it with one, and im kinda chuffed some dealers have just stuck one on anyway.

Really?

Is that why it says WRX STI on the back?

Seen a White one in the flesh and I still feel the WRX Sti Saloon should have the spoiler.

If I was in the market for a car I would purchase it, it suits my taste more in the saloon guise than the hatch ever would.

I would of course be looking for a spoiler simliar to ones seen on this would be fine (not a lip) and Suburu would be mugs not to have one as a option for customer choice. On my STi Bug the spoiler was always my favorite bit about the look of the car. But thats me.

With or without its up to the buyer and in this guise it is up to the purchaser to spec. It will not be long before there is an option from your dealer. But I can understand Suburu thinking, the Type D was the start of it for attracting a different purchaser group in their view. In the long term this will be born out with sales or market niche they find themselves in.

I cannot see Suburu as a serious challenge to BMW market wise.
