If the vf35 is ported then its not a standard unit, the standard vf35 will produce upto 350bhp normally, and watched the vid, the evo driver makes a bollox of the start, you can hear that happen when he bogs his car down off the line, but the times for the white STI are good, BUT any owner can get good times, it just depends how sympathetic you are to the car, if your not at all sympathetic then good times are achievable, but it will cost you when it goes pop.
See the bug at 7.54 v the evo, evo bogs down, scoob gets a better start

Ok will give u that but if is good acceleration your after with least lag or no lag VF35 would be a good start for him. yes your right it does depend on how the car is driven but even a stand impreza driven hard can go pop

The VF35 is easily capable of reaching 350+ bhp with a few simple tweaks, my 35 is only running 1.4 Bar so its hardly being rinsed. There cant be many Classic Imprezas out there with less than 400bhp running 11s, the white Sti in the clip is mine (not the best clip the ones against the hyabusa turbo bond bug were better), it has been down the 1/4 @ the Pod on no less than 50 times over the past 2 years as well as being my daily drive and being driven all over the UK and its running the std gearbox/diff and clutch so reliability is not really an issue.

Iain,
Its not the diff you have to worry about, you have a better gearset than a uk car but the weaker casing, the clutch.... well borrowed time on those, not the best in the world and they do go with more power through them unfortunately and not many give you warning of when they are going, they just break, another downside
Oh and Bob'5 340bhp TD05 car ran 11's not at the pod though, the pod cheats, it has very sticky tarmac for better traction, do it on concrete (though not good for your tyres), a few different places will mean different times.
Best one is a standard UK car at the pod, wind behind it, virtually empty fuel tank etc, well read it for yourself
Good times on your car though
Tony
PS, your vf35 is ported though? hence why it can run 1.4 bar, wouldnt want to push it too far!

However, the most remarkable tests were carried out on a standard 4 door saloons during November 1997. Firstly Top Gear magazine covered the 0–60 mph sprint in only 5.2 seconds! Then Performance Car (sadly no longer with us), as part of their 0–60 challenge timed the Impreza at a mind blowing 5.03 seconds for the 0–60 sprint, with the 1/4 mile being covered in 13.72 seconds at 100.6 mph. It should be noted though, that the Performance Car tests were carried out at Santa Pod drag strip (quality grippy tarmac), with only the driver, a near empty fuel tank and in one direction only.

I dont know Bob 5 but I do have to question is 119mph with only 340bhp even possible? The std VF35 can run 1.4 Bar but it will boost creep like mad hence the wastegate port only has been ported (nothing fancy). I will let you know if anything breaks lol

I went from 280 standard on an sti with VF28, to 320/280 on the VF28, then a VF35 running 350/340 and although the figures are a huge increase between the VF28 & VF35 figures, it feels a totally differnet animal, puts a smile on my face again - spools up quick and just wants to keep on pulling all the way to the redline in every gear

I had a vf34 on my v4 type r and it went really well. If you can get a used sti vf35 and above it would go well and be cost effective.
The difference to a std car is 350hp takes the car from mild manered to quick esp in the mid range.
MD321 takes it to another level again as they keep on going to the rev limit.
