As I got away with it...

One November in "Northern France", at zero degrees ambient, my bog standard UK classic managed to wind itself clean off the clock...

And survives to this day, somewhere out there.

P.S. According to the rev counter she saw 165 mph

er, haven't done any research, but if you drive in the rain with a bonnet scoop don't you get loads of water in the engine bay? could it really be much worse having a vent instead? please don't sue me.

The only time that rain would really get in the vent is whilst stationary, whilst moving the airflow would prevent the rain passing into the engine bay.

You are sure of that, are you? Done research to prove it?

Seriously, the scoop WILL suck in water in the rain, so long as it's sucking in air,but the water is all directed down, through the i/c, (so long as a top mount is fitted), and away. None anywhere near the electrics.
Quite what happens with a scoop and an FMIC, I dunno, but my engine WASN'T wet through after a spirited drive in pouring rain.

As far as the vent is concerned, water MUST enter it while the car is at rest, so where does the water go? It will depend on where the vent is sited, how big it is, what sort it is, (louvres, open mesh, etc, etc), so perhaps someone ought to do some research? BigD, you have a vent, over to you?

In motion, with a vent? Dunno. BigD syas no water enters, but that presupposes that air is being forced out fast enough to STOP rain entering. I am yet to be convinced.

It's a pity we haven't got mythbusters over here..........

I will try and do an airflow test on my vent over the weekend, as for stopping the water getting in whilst in motion its all down to boundary airflow over the bonnet, the faster you go the harder it will be for the rain to enter, also if the vent is any good in theory the faster you go the higher the rate of flow from the vent will be which will also aid in keeping the rain out.

Cheers Iain
