From: Slowly rebuilding the kit of bits into a car...
As I got away with it...
One November in "Northern France", at zero degrees ambient, my bog standard UK classic managed to wind itself clean off the clock...
And survives to this day, somewhere out there.

P.S. According to the rev counter she saw 165 mph

er, haven't done any research, but if you drive in the rain with a bonnet scoop don't you get loads of water in the engine bay? could it really be much worse having a vent instead? please don't sue me.

Seriously, the scoop WILL suck in water in the rain, so long as it's sucking in air,but the water is all directed down, through the i/c, (so long as a top mount is fitted), and away. None anywhere near the electrics.
Quite what happens with a scoop and an FMIC, I dunno, but my engine WASN'T wet through after a spirited drive in pouring rain.
As far as the vent is concerned, water MUST enter it while the car is at rest, so where does the water go? It will depend on where the vent is sited, how big it is, what sort it is, (louvres, open mesh, etc, etc), so perhaps someone ought to do some research? BigD, you have a vent, over to you?
In motion, with a vent? Dunno. BigD syas no water enters, but that presupposes that air is being forced out fast enough to STOP rain entering. I am yet to be convinced.
It's a pity we haven't got mythbusters over here..........

You are sure of that, are you? Done research to prove it?
