What no Helicopters frozen mid flight ?

If you notice your location, its quite well inland and away from the Eastern side of the country which bears the brunt of it, also quite low down, nerarer the equator by a few hundred miles than some of the worst hit bits, we are in South Manchester and havent had much, maybe a couple of inches but again, well inland, quite low and we have the Pennines to stall a lot of the worst of it, go to Darlington, Aberdeen etc and see what its like !

If you want a reasonably good idea what the weather may be like, contact Speye. He seems to have been more accurate than the 'real' forecasters. Everytime I check the forecast, what has actually happened has been different to their guess.

TBH I can't see it ending for another 10 days. There is a front out to the West, but that's not going to reach the East coast,West coast may get a canny bit Snow out of it.
The Cold is just too strong for anyfronts to take on.That's why i see the cold winning.East coast is probably going to get a little drier, until next week but alot colder, then i can see more of the same coming through. The cold is here for a while yet.Im confident of it been here until Christmas, that i placed a bet 3 weeks ago £50 at 9-1 of it Snowing at Christmas.
The Cold is going to win for the time being.

We have some more snow predicted in the North West, apparently that and it may warm up a bit.

Kind of what I was thinking, couple of inches here please, maybe a bit more for Igloo building.

Roof's look damp and there is cloud so looks like its warmed up a bit and the snow might appear soon, keep looking.

Just thought I would get in before Pete...

What do you reckon ?
This sort of winter was not unusual at all when I was a lad. We used to look forward to the snow, and most people coped with it very well, even without the gritters that the councils have now.

Seems like a hell of a fuss these days, exacerbated by the media of course.

Les, no soldiers involved, in fact my "little soldier" was seemingly absent

Its a bit of a tradition of mine, not given to flashing but I like to surprise the mrs, the fun is contriving it so I can appear and knock at the patio doors without her realising, its getting more difficult as the minute there is Snow she expects the knock every time I leave the room, So surprising her gets more difficult, I will have to do it at the front up a ladder, which could be risky.....

Anyway, its not indecent exposure, with my pasty white skin I am all but invisble against the Snow, its like Artic camoflage.

Go on Les, surprise Mrs Les with you naked bum cheeks on the bedroom window, perhaps a naked flypast ?

My Grandmother said the same, this is how we 'used' to get it, it seems the weather has done a bit of a cycle and its now heading back to how it should be.

Could it just be that our day-to-day lives and the economy are far more reliant these days on road transport than they were back then? Double (or more) the number of cars on the road, more centralized distribution systems for shops, longer average commuting distances, higher proportion of women in the workforce, higher proportion of single-households, etc etc.

Yep, Les was ok if he killed a Mammoth in late Autumn, could just stay in the cave until Spring

We don't have to be reliant on road transport like that, it's a question of town/city planning.

I doubt that better town/city planning alone would make much difference to a housing market that's massively weighted against home rental as a choice, or a general economic trend of people keeping the same job for far shorter periods of time now than they did 1 or 2 generations ago.

Its a good point, to a certain extent you are right, the amount of traffic was comparatively low. The buses always kept going and people were used to using them. And as you say, the distances people travelled then were shorter.

Those who did drive were pretty good at dealing with snow and ice, the narrow tyres would help too.

Somehow things were not held up in the way they are these days however.

Dont think I'll bother, doubt Mrs Leslie would take a second look. She has got a good sense of humour though!

I like the airliner one though

Just the one Mammoth? I would regard it a failure if I wasn't dragging a couple back home, one on each shoulder. We do eat well here you know!
