Before I went self employed, I was made redundant. I just could not bring myself to sign on. Luckily I was only out of work for one month.
The galling thing is, the redundancy money, which was not much, had benefits deducted from it. I called to say I did not claim any, but they said I should have and deducted it anyway. Cheeky beggars
Just a matter of months ago, I was in the post office and two young girls were in front of me. One with a baby and heavily pregnant again. I heard her say, with some pride, "when this one is born, I will be rolling in it".
How times change

One of the blurry areas
If pushed I would say career because they have spent their working life trying to get to that goal.
I don't have a huge interest in politics so have no idea how someone actually gets to that point.

I have neither at the moment, and I have to say, I feel, that a career and a job go hand in hand, it's just defined by the individual as to how they like to label themselves.
Afterall career woman sounds much better than I have a job at "......".
However people who work in such 'jobs' as Lydia puts it, still have to train in order to move upwards.
Every 'job' has the potential to be or can be a job, it depends on what you want out of it.

A lad i used to knock about with when i was 14/15 years old was on Jeramey Kyle.
Hilarious.
I stopped knocking about with him when he started going a bit mental and stabbing people.
I was watching the video on Youtube and i was convinced it was him, not seen him for a looooong time, but i knew it was him.
Asked my best mate and yup its him, my best mates embarrassing distant cousin

I reckon the benefits office should monitor facebook to weed out the long term scroungers. One of my girlfriends mates has never worked a day in her life is on dla and is currently trying to get her child registered disabled because he has adhd. Cannot be short of a bob or two as she has just come back on holiday from Australia.

It looks like i'll be once again going cap in hand as I'm starting to rub everyone in my current job up the wrong way as I have a pretty **** attitude.

I don't understand this mentality, You were made redundant so why feel ashamed of claiming something you are entitled too? When I left over a dispute with my employer last year I signed on and didn't feel bad about it because i've worked since I was 13years old so i've paid my bit and I deserved a bit of help(cash) for all the help(cash) i'd put into the pot previously. Now if you've never paid into the pot, well thats a completely different matter......

I can honestly say, I have not had a penny from the state, except for child benefit that everyone gets. And being self employed, I was not entitled to maternity pay when I had the kids, so I worked from home after two weeks off

I know. I just couldn't do it. I knew I had another job in the offing and just couldn't face some smug civil servant and ask for money. Strange isn't it
